Just a small tip. You can use hot water and even boiling water, the plastic used to make keyboard keycaps (ABS or PBT) melts on 200°C+ so you're safe. It will get rid of the grease and dirt much quicker and better. I did it myself and the results were great.. As for cleaning the keyboard itself, water is sufficent in most cases, but if you spilled a sugary drink or beer on it (like I did) you'll have to use alcohol to clean it. I have a Corsair K95 with PBT caps and I spilled beer all over it. I thought I'll have to throw it away because almost every key was sticky and would either get stuck when I pressed it or would be hard to press because it was already stuck..

I have a Corsair mechanical keyboard too (K70). The keycap puller came with the keyboard. One thing you missed was removing and separately cleaning the wrist rest (mine had a lot of gunk underneath). It's a little tricky to remove this part. You have to bend the rest down almost 90 degrees (push it past the edge of the table), and then push it straight down to release it. Also, I used a plastic food container with a top to shake the keycaps with more agitation.

For what cleaning solution-- search DAS keyboard cleaning, they explain all the types of plastic and printing etc, and which products you can safely use for what. Water(especially if soft/distilled) and a lil dish soap usually safe. Alcohols can be safe but not always. Dont f with the spacebar and other larger keys if your board has metal attachments. It's not worth messing them up.... Compressed air sprays can help, especially if your keyboard has more nooks.

How do you maintain the keyboard after cleaning it? Do you use the compressed air cans or some kind of air blower to remove the light dust?
@CreatedTech4 жыл бұрын
You can do that, compressed air works well. Be careful using a vacuum cleaner as there is a slight risk of short circuiting the keyboard.

You can buy a small manual dust blower to just blow through the keyborad every once in a while. Affordable and lasts forever. Just place the tip between the keys and give it a powerful squeze

As a touch typer, I don't need to take a picture, because I have been typing for 10 years with my old keyboard and thats why I always memorize the whole layout. Ps. I use Dvorak layout.

"As you can see, after 2-3 minutes with a Q-tip, it's essentially brand new!" Day 51. I have just finished cleaning the numpad area. The keycaps have been soaking for days, calling out for help as they writhe in the soapy water. The main area of the keyboard haunts me. Dust and debris stuck to the board, seemingly glued on. Pain and suffering is the only thing I know. How long will things last, how many Q-tips will be abused in my hands. I can't see the end of the path.

Nice. Im going to have to do this to all of my keyboards. My Leopold Mechanical keyboards all came with those nifty keyboard covers. it's a thin piece of clear plastic that's molded and shaped with a 3d impression of the entire keyboard layout. so its fits perfectly over the entire keyboard to protect it when not is use.

So, (hypothetical of course) what if we are too lazy to take off all the keys, and just wanted to get the grease off it with the keys still on? What would be the best way to do that?

a quick wipe with a wet towel
@PVT_White2 жыл бұрын
I use glass cleaner or wipe over it with a towel and a mix of water and all purpose cleaner when I'm dusting anyways. Gets rid of germs and grease.

I just took the keys off my Corsair Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with just my finger in a claw like shape on the corner. Was quite easy, just don't pull incredibly hard and try each corner, if one corner is not budging, try the other corner, if it's being stubborn, move onto another key and work your way towards it until you can get access to the other sides of the key you were originally trying to pull off. I successfully pulled them all off with my finger no problem.

Vacuum with the soft brush attachment is perfect. Not sure why people think it will damage it. Motherboards, keyboards, GPU’s vacuum, no worries. Just don’t go hard at it
