Really good simple video for the non techs. I think its correct about sites wifi being awful. We had a static on a 5 star site and it was awful. There was a lot of complaints from the caravaners for £4800 a year site fees. We had an ex-IT manager caravan owner do a survet and he said they had bad mesh issues but when you are a multi-millionaire site owner you still need to go for the lowest bidder internet installer dont you. So we all need our mobile networks even on wifi sites. I have a tourer now and this is the kind of video i like to see. Ok a window has to be open. Not into drilling holes in ststics. You used the two connections from the aerial. Can it get away with one? as our caravan has an external coax. That could used.

Thanks for using our antenna, Tanya! We added it to our customer playlist on our KZbin Channel and will share it on our Social Media platforms as well, if that is OK with you. Ylana at Poynting Antennas

Thank you so much Tanya, Steve and I have had the same issues this season and we have, bizarrely done some research on purchasing some form of kit for next year! As you will now know, having visited Yorkshire, we like value for money being Yorkshire men and the ones you have bought were on our final shortlist!! We have never visited a site where “free WiFi” has been good and when we have paid for it, it has not been much better. Paul and Steve xx

Can you do a test with the aerial supplied with the router instead of the outside aerial
@TravellingBox Жыл бұрын
I’ll try that when I’m next on site for you

I installed the same router and a puck antenna a couple of weeks ago and used it last week on a site. The puck antenna goes through the roof, it comes with a sticky seal but I used Silkaflex on it too. I put it all into a locker, so it doesn't show. I also used a Roku streamer to give our TV all the streaming channels.

Did you ever do a follow up video to this? Interested to know how this setup worked on sites.
@TravellingBox2 жыл бұрын
Not specifically although I’ve used it lots on holidays since then and it’s been amazing. Always much better than my phone on its own. Some areas have rubbish signal so it’s only as good as the area it’s in.

So by using your new antenna it will take twice as long to upload 😂 there's me thinking we're useless 😂😂

Hi - i have the same setup - can I ask did you try the router with just the rabbit ears and not connected to the external antenna = I only ask as I have found the external attend ( same as yours) makes very little difference to the overall speed being obtained - just interested if you found the same - cheers

On some sites it’s not made much difference at all during the day but it does make a difference at night when all the blinds are down. However, there have been a couple of sites where the extra height and repositioning of the antenna has made all the difference in the world.

I got power to my TP Link router by spicing into the 12V light wiring. Now I have power whenever the 12v system is switched on

Thanks Tanya your video is fabulous! My wife and I have struggled with our Wi-Fi signals in the caravan for so long? We have just ordered the same equipment as you. Your explanation and demonstration of the system was very easy to follow thank you 🥰

Excellent video, very informative. We are also looking into this at the moment. We use Sky mobile because you can keep all of your unused data for up to 3 years and also swap the data between our 3 sims. Sky mobile use the O2 network.

So is it cheaper to get the sim from gifgaf etc than go straight to 3 or 02 etc? I’m thinking of getting one of these for my static, please say how it’s going for you? Xx
@TravellingBox Жыл бұрын
Much cheaper. I actually only ever end up using Smarty now. My son’s new phone also has a smarty sim so I end up getting a further discount.

Hi there again Tanya, How has your wi-fi set up performed since you installed it? How does it fare in poor reception area's? I'm looking into getting a wi-fi set up for my caravan but where we go 4g signals aren't that great. Regards? John.
@TravellingBox2 жыл бұрын
Erm … mostly it has been brilliant. When we went to Clarkson’s farm last year it was slow but I did know that it was a poor signal area before I went. It still enabled me to use my devices and was certainly better than I would have experienced of an evening with the blinds down but not as fast as we get used to and so somewhat frustrating but I’m not sure there is a way around that in poorly serviced areas. If you stand outside and your phone struggles with getting signal when held aloft then this will probably struggle as well as it’s basically picking up the same network

@@TravellingBox Thanks for the prompt reply Tania, Very informative and useful info, for me having a good wi-fi connection whilst away is a must especially as we often take my daughter and grandson away with us along with their iPad's and phone's etc, also my partner does like to watch tv. I'm going to have a look at using an amplified aerial and use a mast to see if that might help with the reception in poor signal area's, I hope it does really as I do enjoy caravanning, but in this modern world technology is part of everyday life and recreation too and this issue kind of spoils it a bit Anyway, thanks again for your help. Kind regards, John.

@@johnmitchell3257 absolutely agree. We, all of us, are so accustomed to technology to remain in contact or even just to be able to have a little relaxation time on the caravan sofa

Just a quick one, go into the admin settings on the router and check if you have to tell it that you are using a stronger Ariel. I had to on my mobile router which I didn’t realise. Also you’re upload test was slow so move the Ariel to a different place and run another speed test, height doesn’t matter with that type of Ariel so it’s trial and error to where the best location is for it. For camp sites with non electric you might want to look into a jackery solar generator, it’s a bit of a game changer when all the electric pitches are taken 👍
@TravellingBox3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Those solar generators are way out of my budget. Until they come way down in price they aren’t at all attractive to me considering how rarely we would need it. I do need to go into the admin settings at some point soon so will certainly take a look if I need to tell it about the other Ariel.
