WOW! She looks ALIVE!! You do such beautiful work keep it up. You also have one of the most soothing wonderful voices I have ever heard. I could listen to you talk about whatever for hours on end. Have you ever done voice over work for animation?? Or audio books? You should if you haven't yet! Peace:)

I just had to subscribe. I really enjoyed that. It's beautiful. I don't think I am in any way an artist but I do like repainting dolls and I find that I learn a lot watching people paint. I think I watch in a very analytical way and then I use things I see people doing and it all goes towards improving on the little bit of natural ability (and I mean little!). This was really great to watch and doubtless I will watch it again. I am fascinated by skin texture at the moment... I mean all the veining and subtle stuff as opposed to just colouring and freckles. I think this is really a beautiful work of art and it's wonderful that you shared the creation with everyone.

I used to do porcelain dolls; poured them from molds and continued the process to completion, including handmade clothing. My absolute favorite part was painting the face and watching the doll come alive. Where do you get a silicone mold for a doll’s face? In addition to acrylic paints, what ‘paints; did you use for the cheeks, lips, etc? What did you ‘seal’ the face painting when finished? Beautiful!
@xhanthi5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I love that moment when you start to really see the character come through! I made the mold for the face myself. The blushing on the cheeks and lips is a pastel pigment, like pan pastels, but I use a variety of brands. I use Vallejo clear matte sealant for finishing the face :)

It was absolutely wonderful to watch you as you worked and hear what you were thinking. I have two questions: how did you get the irises so perfectly round, do you have a template or do you just eyeball it (pardon the pun)? And also, rather than an India ink pen why did you not use just a common alcohol based permanent marker, like Sharpies, do they work differently? Thanks for putting in the extra work that goes in to making KZbin videos for the rest of us, it's really very generous of your time.
@xhanthi5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! I just draw the irises on by hand, there's no template, so yep I definitely eyeball it lol. And honestly the reason I used the India ink is because it's what I had on hand, I didn't have a fine liner sharpie, and I really don't know if it would work differently!

meh… JUST KIDDING! Well done! Beautiful work. A few questions… What do you use to get your zbrush file setup for 3D printing? Do you prep your mold with anything? Do you ever use filler in your Smooth Cast (for bulk, texture, or other)? Is your dry brushing done with acrylic or do you use a dry pigment like pastels or mica? Do you have any issues with the pigment adhering to the Smooth Cast? What do you use to gloss the eyes? Are you thinning with solvent or something other than water? Do you seal or apply a finish when you're done? Have you considered embedding a couple of machine screws or bolts into the piece so they're suspended and protruding from the back while casting? This would make it easier to pull the piece from your mold after it's cured (forcing a little compressed air between the two can also help with suction). The bolts would also give you the ability to secure the piece to a stand or armature while you work (to minimize handling) and probably make it adjustable and easier to secure to the base in the end. Thanks for the beautiful presentation. BTW… you have a beautiful voice. Now, can you read me a bedtime story. 😄
@xhanthi5 жыл бұрын
To be honest I set up my zbrush file so long ago I'm not even sure what I did, and I just followed a tutorial to do it too! I'm still learning how to do everything in zbrush so I am definitely not the person to ask! I don't use any filler in my casting, I should look into it though to save a little on the resin and maybe reduce the weight. Embedding some screws would be a great idea for getting the larger heads out, though it's not too much trouble to get them out. I drill into the back of the heads after molding to set the screws to hold the heads in place as they're bolted on as well as glued. I don't want to attach them to any armature while I paint them though because I need to be able to turn them around to get into the difficult spaces, the handling isn't a problem, that's what the gloves are for! I use a mix of acrylic paints and dry pastel pigments on the heads, I don't have any adhesion issues as I use a clear sealant between layers of work to give the surface the right amount of tooth, and to seal the previous detail layers (I use Vallejo for sealing). The gloss for the eyes is Tamiya gloss, I don't thin it with anything, I just use it as it. I think that's everything! :D Thanks for the voice compliment, it's funny because I hate listening to myself, but I think that's everyone right? XD :)
