This is great but if my paragraphs are auto numbered - how do I get the TOC to include the paragraph number? When I to Alt+Shift+O it only includes the wording, not the paragraph number.

Excellent video. I have document with tables with various headings that I wanted to selectively include in the TOC. This technique does the trick for me.

It’s better to work this document with styles. I learned it by my own with excellent videos like yours. Love your teachings thank you. In the law office where i work they still use this TC field because they know no better. I refuse to keep using TC fields after learning about styles. I considered my self fair good in styles.

Hi Can you help? I am trying to center, and bold my TOC main headings but keep the page numbers aligned to the right. I can do this manually but ofcourse it shifts back to the pg number in the center when updating TOC.

I have a TOC that shows two levels. On 1. and 2. the boss doesn't want to show the levels 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. But, on 3 and the remaining TOC he wants to see levels 1 and 2. Can I disable Header 2 for the first TWO items in the list, but keep both levels beginning with the 3 paragraph?

There are bunch of paragraphs, some of which start with a numeral. It contains an *en-dash*. We need to go to the point of en-dash, push rest of that Para into next paragraph. Then come again to the earlier Para (numeral para), apply a custom style (eg. My Style). Then insert a *style separator* at its end (now this would automatically - visually join the next following paragraph to the numeral paragraph. May be this requires regular expression or macro... I am not sure. 😵... Could you solve this 👆

I learned a lot from your video on para numbering (Paranum1, 2, etc) styles . Can I create a TOC using those and not Heading styles?

It is very important to point out that if by any chance some revisions are made in some of the articles titles or sections, they would not be automatically updated in the field you marked. You will have to also make the revisions inside the marked field or delete the field and mark it again so that your table of contents show the revised article or section changes.

True. If you want the title to update in the TOC, you'd need to revise the TOC field. That's one of the drawbacks.

In the TOC, how would you "Capitalize Each Word" (Just the 1st letter of each word) in any of the levels? "Font" doesn't give that option. I can only do it by going through the HOME tab and selecting Aa, etc. Thank you kindly.

I had this same problem. Can't find the answer anywhere, but this video did as good of a job as possible in getting close. Maybe Word doesn't give that option out.

Hi Deborah, can you do a video or answer this question, how do you make your number/letter linked heading jump to the next number/letter without manually applying the style. Like if you're doing a list that goes from a) to m) for instance? Is this possible? Thanks.

If you're using automatic paragraph numbering, pressing Enter should start a new paragraph with the next number/letter already in place. Is that not what's happening for you?

Yes, you can mix them; you'll just need to be very clear about which entries appear at various levels.
