This video is excellent. I didn't even use the sound and still was able to easily follow your directions. Kudos to you!! I would just point out that a true histogram uses class boundaries instead of class limits. In other words, your classes should read 0.5-60.5, 60.5-102.5, etc.

A great help, although I have a small criticism. This method only applies if the intervals on the x axis are regular, as histograms are concerned with the area rather than the height of columns. It would be nice to see a video addressing this.

This is super-helpful for me, I had been struggling for hours, trying to create a histogram with Excel. I had had no idea about the Data Analysis add-in. Also, the big problem I had w/ formatting the graph to work, is it always wanted to make bars for both Frequency & Bin Limits, but now after using the Data Analysis - Histogram function it automatically generated bars only for the frequency variable. I think this exercise will help me w/ other kinds of graphs, too. Thanks so much! Lifesaver!

Although I'm not advanced enough in statistics to know how to use frequency density histograms, this is quite illuminating and will be useful to think about as I move further along. Thank you for explaining it! And I can see the problem now of not being able to make histograms with unequal bin widths in Excel. I'm going to be starting to learn to use Stata soon, and it will be interesting to see if that program does enable frequency density histograms--if I can figure it out I'll post an update!

Bins are what you ranges the frequencies are about. If you have bins 1-10, 11-20, and 21-30 then it sorts the data into groups that are 1-10, 11-20, and 21-30. It then finds the frequency of numbers in that bin. (How many numbers of your data fit in that range / the total amount of numbers = Frequency in %) The bins you use are determined by the your min and your max, as well as the range you want each on to be. So if your min is 4 and you max is 23 you might use bins 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 21-25.

If you have many bins, is there a way that Excel will reformat your bin intervals automatically like you had to do by hand (i.e. if you have "10" in your input bin, and you want the bin to go from 0 to 10, then by hand you have to type '0-10. Is there a way you can get Excel to do that from just your original input bins?)

how can this be a histogram if the bars have the same width? You have not found out the frequency density simply named the bar categories

OMG THANK YOU! I don't know why, but I don't even need the add-in! All i had trouble with was adding numbers without excel turning them into dates and all that kinda BS! This just saved my ass, since we have a test tommorow, and we might need to make a histogram! Cheers! :)

It is not available for Microsoft Excel 2011, you can get the data analysis for 2016 version or 360. :)

+xoppa09 I know this is 3 months late, but... Actually, you could then immediately go make a column graph; In other words, skip to 2:28 and follow him from there. EDIT: I realize that you'll need to manually decide the class boundaries and then re-count the frequencies, but this time, to fit each class boundary. But after that, you can then proceed to make the graph.
