I had never had a controller before and, just as I was about to take the plunge, Hydros came to market so I stood down for a while to see how it would play out. Decided to go with Hydros in the end. That said, I haven't use other systems so can't compare but what I can tell you is that within days of getting Hydros up and running (which was easy by the way), I knew I would never run another tank without one. It's been controlling my 200g mixed reef for over a year with no issues and has saved my tank at least twice. I love it and would recommend to anyone who asks. There's a forum and social media groups full of fine individuals who will answer questions you may have before...getting your feet wet. Good luck!

So one my eb832 died for the second time. Both died same time once before, diy both and lasted for 2 yrs. This time it didnt work on the one that went out. Ready to scrap neptune. This going to be worth it?

simple answer is no. There are far more devices that are far more availability and integrated for Neptune as well as a better DOA rates. But there are now also open source controllers for home assistant that can run with the rest of your IOT items at home as well as support hydros/neptune devices that might be worth looking into if you are looking for reliability. Admittedly the open source options require more technical understanding but once you understand the likes of home assistant you will wonder why you ever messed around with the overpriced retail controllers...

Of course Hydros is better....just on parts alone...the EB832 has about $15 in parts inside it, hence why they have a high failure rate (just look at all the poor reviews)....Hydros' XP8 is passive cooled and backed by a mean well power supply PLUS its a full fledged controller in itself so that if another module in your collective were to ever fail, the XP8 will continue chugging the system along until you fix the faulty module...in Apex, if the brain goes, the whole system goes down...its a great redundancy feature on Hydros....you'll quickly see that Hydros is made in house in a lab in Louisiana where they manage the end to end QC unlike Neptune that is basically made overseas.....most of the hydros modules are also IP65 rated which make it ideal near fish tanks unlike Apex plus they use BNC connections which secure cables from falling out
