I've thought of the idea of having a drag persona for a while now, and shooting for a weirdcore/Will Wood And The Tapeworms music style, but all the songs I think of that would be cool to do are too slow, don't have the right energy for a stage performance, or, in the case of Will Wood songs in his earlier eras, aren't coherent enough for me to pull it off well. I know I'll probably never have the place or confidence to make an actual performance with it, but I still like the idea of it. If I were to make something of it, would a lower energy song (something like Ben Bernanke or Touch-Tone Telephone by Lemon Demon, they're slower songs with some bit of weirdness that might compensate for it) work for drag, or should I look into more up-tempo genres to pull inspiration from?

Omg I have a number for Touch Tone Telephone I’m working on, you can absolutely make the weird stuff work! And I’ve never heard of Will Wood but from what I just looked up on Spotify I LOVE! You can definitely make it work if it speaks to you. That band reminds me a lot of the king Spank Knightly, go look him up on insta I think he’s right up your alley. You can do this!

Yes king 0_0 Anyways, I'm a genderqueer theatre kid, which means I'm involuntarily getting sucked into the drag rabbit hole I guess. It all seems very interesting! Ofc! Drag totally fulfilled my performance art needs once I stopped doing live theater after highschool. You get to be your own director, costume designer, create a story with a song, everything I’ve ever wanted out of theater. And the fact that it’s interactive makes it so much more fun! I'm bad at puns, I took to a pun generator online. Input the name Sebastian. Everything was like science based? "Law of Sebastian" and "Sexual Sebastian" and even "Real-time polymerase chain Sebastian" and "Acid base Sebastian" clearly I'm supposed to have an applied science/biology theme 😭

Sebastian is maybe hard to work with. Only things i could think of is Seabastian, like an (old) captain or pirate (or Sebastian Menshan like the tianmen shān Park in China but no one would get it)

thank you so much for this video! i’ve got a vague idea of my persona and he takes a lot of inspo from goth/punk sort of subcultures and this really helped me kind of further refine what i want to do. i’m still a long ways off from having the resources to actually DO drag (and i’m also just kind of a wuss) but this really made me feel more ready and confident in my abilities to go for it when the time comes

Ive been doing drag for like 2 years now Ive mostly been a drag queen but i recently went to a pride parade in a renn faire costume cuz i was coming but from the renn faire and i didnt have time to change I was a macabre jester bard thing and i decided to just go with it and be in character then it hit me like omg what if i did this but for drag as a king cuz i never had a persona for mg queen stuff so yaur also i took from a dnd character i had come up with a while ago and yeah ig Im now Stumpy Dan the Professional Silly Man

Do you have any advice or ideas for someone who wants to do drag performances but is disabled and uses mobility aids sometimes? I’ve encountered a lot of people in the queer community who don’t understand or respect wheelchair etiquette so I’m deeply afraid that I would be denied entry as a performer or mistreated while on stage... But I also have this desire to perform and enjoy myself on stage like when I was a kiddo. Have you encountered any drag artists in wheelchairs before?

sorry I'm so late at replying!! I know a few kings who use mobility aids, Lotus Boy in SF even produced an incredible drag show with a full cast of disabled artists! It can most definitely be done and it's awesome! If a drag show isn't open to accommodating disabled performers/making the show accessible that's a red flag.
