Creating A Massive Skyscraper in Blender

In this Blender timelapse tutorial, you will learn how to model, texture and render a massive skyscraper in Blender 2.8.
We first start off by modeling one window frame of the skyscraper and then use a bunch of modifiers to define the shape and height of the building. We then play around with the shaders from the Cycles rendering engine to make the glass and frame look as real as possible.

Love the technique - especially the camera setup. It would be interesting to see your glass and glossy shaders mixed with a layer weight node to add more transparency to the windows closest to the camera. Nice work!

Thank you for the tutorial but since you fast forwarded it, all the important bits like selecting the shader bits, is literally on screen for less than a half a second meaning I have to go back OVER and OVER and over and HOPE to click pause at the right time.

Hi Thilakanathan, I have to do a similar work; I have just one doubt: what if you wanted to change the dimensions or adding a texture on the windows AFTER applying the array? `cause if I apply the layer both alongside the horizontal and then the vertical axis, then I have to edit each window singularly. I´d like to have more copies of my elements that can be all edited in one shot by modifying the, lets say original one. Any ideas?

As a complete newbie.... he speaks like the old "Micro Machines" guy. Way to fast for me to follow. It took me forever to find where shading is. Love the end result... I just have some more learning to do. I can type as fast as you talk, just struggling to keep up in Blender.

Important tip - NEVER SET METALIC BETWEEN 1 OR 0 !! please don't do this, because metalic should be only 0 or 1 (check blender guru material tutorials)

"Easy to follow if you're a beginner!" Yes, very..... especially when you dont explain anything at all. Ang go 5x time speed. I can understand that one doesnt remember how it was as a beginner but maybe at least try to look back. I doubt anyone as a beginner understands what you are talking about most of the time. The part where you cut the edges of the floor would require so much more explanation. And how you fill the gap even more.,. And the rest too. Im really starting to get boring of all those "tutorials" that do nothing but show the skill of the author. So much time wasted trying to follow just to see after an hour that nothing will be explained. There is a simple solution, dont put any wording about beginner in your description, would save the beginners a lot of time.

I see your perspective, but it's worth keeping in mind that 3D modeling is sufficiently complicated enough such that I can't imagine it being worth it to get angry at content creators for not making videos for people who are total beginners. This video is still made for and is suitable for beginners, but not for people who are a beginner at being a beginner. If this is you, I would at least go learn the basics before spending any more time trying to do things like this.

my thoughts. This is one of the not so good teachers on yt t seems. Throwing out vid after vid and never answers a single question, goes multispeed that even 0.5 times doesnt help. Doesnt explain things and more.... I think we should go look for others, sometimes its wasted time to do a tutorial where one creates something but doesnt learn what one is doing. No idea for whom these tuts are but a beginner doesnt learn and a pro already knows it. I "love" the ones where they do timelapses to show their skills especially. Nothing but show off, basically useless for anyone but themself. Sadly yt is full of these ego-addicted ppl. Somehow it always ends up back with BlenderGuru. He can impress while teaching, most others dont.
