Your videos are always so helpful! I had no idea how to use my synth to both write sequences and send midi to the synth! Now that I know the routing I can perhaps break free of the tyranny of Korg's 16 step sequencers and open up some of the great sounds of these synths!

How do you sequence patterns into a full song, is changing it manually with the keys the only way? Also, how do you get it into the track, can you "bake" those patterns as a MIDI object?

Reaper continues to blow my mind. Is there any way to record the pitches/notes in realtime (simple 16th notes) from a midi keyboard? Or, any alternative plugins that allow this? I'm looking for something similar to Arturia's Keystep, but in plugin form. Thanks guys!

Loop the timeline, turn record on, use midi record overdub mode, and set midi input to quantize to 16ths

Great video by the way . Quick question , I am using a mac , how do I increase the green range so as I can see a larger range of octaves as there is no right click on the mac . I have tried the cmd and alt with the mouse but it does nothing . I will try a few more things after posting this .

Hi Kenny! Great video as always. Dumb question perhaps... is it not possible to have Pattern Change + Transpose enabled BEFORE recording a sequence? I would love to not be able to mouse and change that option after recording sequences in realtime. I wonder if I could create an action to enable that? Thx!

Now I'm sort of confused.. Is it possible to trigger a Hardware synth with Megababy and record the MIDI data? If so, how? The only way I could think of is to record the MIDI data using a soft synth on one track and have it trigger a hardware synth on another track, capturing the audio. You would have to mute the soft synth so you don't hear it during recording or playback right? but it would still print out the MIDI so I can edit it later? Anybody doing something similar?
@darkmadder98975 жыл бұрын
This is actually only the midi data, you have to "print" it to your track or it records nothing. So you could switch out any synth and it will play the same thing. You just run this into your hardware synth and off it goes, but of course will need to adjust for the audio difference between synths. You could run the "synth" data into a drum machine and it would play the notation you programmed in megababy. The main point of using a synth while programming this is simply because megababy makes no sound on it's own, making composing difficult without an instrument linked/chained to this sequencer. I'm sure you've figured all this out on your own by now - just sayin'...

Hi Kenny, great video. I'm not really a keyboard player, but i want to add some synth sounds and other instrument sounds to my recordings. I posted this question over on G3G but I just wanted to ask again...I got a new MIDI keyboard recently that was bundled with XPand!2, which I see you're using here, but for some reason Reaper doesn't seem to have it in it's list of plug-ins. I've installed it to the same folder as all my other plugs, and rescanned but still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I am afraid not .. but ..Just put the plugin JS:MIDI Snap to Key AFTER Megababy plugin and choose a Key in that plugin. Now all midi notes output from Megababy will be constrained to your choosen Key !

Great video as usual Kenny. I'd like to see Reaper focus on improvements to the midi editor in particular multi track editing. It has the lead there from the DAWs I've looked at (Logic, Live) but I have not looked at Cubase which I hear is better. Megababy is not a forward step on midi editing in Reaper.

how do i sequence a hardware synth?
@ourxbox16 жыл бұрын
Wondering the same thing
@mackenlyparmelee54405 жыл бұрын
@@ourxbox1 I've actually since learned how to do it. You can use MegaBaby and send the MIDI data via the Route function to your hardware synth. Then you can record the audio from it on a separate track.
@MJBadTour14 жыл бұрын
@@mackenlyparmelee5440 Can you please explain this in great detail?
@mackenlyparmelee54404 жыл бұрын
@@MJBadTour1 I'll try it's been a little while since I did this. Basically though I used a yamaha reface cs plugged into my pc via its usb port, and also had the audio signal routed out through an audio interface via 1/4 inch. The signal path went pc -> synth via USB, then synth -> pc via 1/4 inch. I had a MIDI sequence programmed in reaper in one track, had the signal send routed to the synth which played the sequence and I just recorded the synth's audio output in a separate track. Lemme know if this helps

Thanks, only little constructive criticism I would give is that you tend to put lots of strange pauses in between every 4/5 words which can sound a bit robotic, kind of puts me off watching more of your videos.

As far as I am aware, this is done on purpose - to make it really easy to follow. Remember, there are many non-native English speakers who use these tutorials, so slow and clear is fine. Interestingly, on Groove3 Kenny's tutorials don't have these pauses. Just sharing a bit of info. It's well worth putting up with this on youtube.
