I have to say that last line fits Ian so perfectly. You got these builders who went to design school and have high dollar CNC machines and and machines for making body panels and machines for just about anything and they learn how to design custom vehicles and learn how to use the fancy machines. Then you have Ian, the natural design expert that can blow your mind with the most basic tools and salvaged materials and he just feels it out and doesn't overthink it

Funny, I just found this channel a couple days ago, and now found your step van. Like you..I have always driven a van, both for work(carpet installer)and camping. My first was a 63 Eco. in 1975. Now I'm a big guy(6"6)so room is always a thing + I like taking the H-D and don't like pulling a trailer. So my forever truck is a mid size 1985 GMC ValueVan(step van)put it on a 87 C class 1 ton motor home chassis with tbi 350 and t-400 trans. One of the things I didn't want to worry about was the paint, so it doesn't have any, I stripped it and just going to polish it. My couch/bed folds up to 1 side, large, tool box, vanity, closet, fridge, and a stand up shower, and still room for the bagger. One of the nice things about mine is it's square. Trying to figure out a sun visor right now(gangster style)do ya do requests lol. It's been 3 long years, and now it's close. See ya on the road. ✌

That is a great Van , the old INTERNATIONAL Delivery vans were beautiful from a time of near Art Deco , and warm ergonomic contours , when things had a human feel or organic function. Ian Roussel ; you did amazing work a work of Love. Get good shocks under her 😇

Compound curved interior trim fabrication is my area of expertise. A trick that I use is the use of a tape pattern to capture the curved contoured area. First, clean the area with isopropyl alcohol to ensure the masking tape will stick. Overlapping the masking tape is necessary so that when the pattern is removed the tape maintains its shape. The tape pattern will possibly need some relief cuts put in it to permit the tape pattern to be flattened out. Cut the tape pattern to flatten it out and stick it onto the material being used Next, cut out the shape. When the material is bent back into the shape where the relief cuts line up, the desired shape is achieved. Materials will vary depending on the task and additional procedures may be required. I really like the Van project and enjoy watching the channel. The elephant in the room for me was the unfinished interior structure behind the trim panels.

Sweet! I just bought a '61 IH Metro AM120 (the 3/4ton, long wheelbase version of this). It's got the most rust free body on one of these I've ever seen. I plan on turning the back into a camper so I can tow my IH Scout II to shows and going off road with it and not have to worry about being a little extra hard on the 4x4 while I'm wheeling it because I can tow it home. AFAIK, it's almost totally original. The engine needs replaced, and I'd like to go either Cummins or Powerstroke (to keep it IH) for towing torque and fuel economy. The tiny c.i. I6 just ain't gonna cut it. Can't wait to see how this one turns out to see what I'd like to incorporate and what pitfalls to avoid.

Awesome build. I'm getting stoked up with excitement & ideas as to what I'm going to do with a 1993 E 350 Club Wagon I've got sitting around. It's time I tackle this once church shuttle van. I really enjoyed watching this build & using some recycled materials was really cool for sure.👍

Love your work. It's inspiring. Do you have any video's of the finished product? I was imagining LED's behind the grill. That would really set it off at night. Im working on a cycle kart build. Alot smaller, but works well with my setup. My inspiration vehicle is a 1934 Duzzenburg.

Nice looking van. However, I’d never have it “skateboarding” the ground; I’d never lower it from the original frame height. Next, I’d put in an automatic transmission, because I can’t drive a stick shift. Next, I’d put a lot of windows in it; have the right side open up just like the left side. I’d paint it a rich metallic green; give it monster tires.
