i understand most of whats going on here but i am having trouble with my if statements. this is my els, however, i do not understand what they mean by the "solitary root" . If b^2-4*a*c equals zero output the solitary root for both outputs plus display "Equation has only one root". help?

That is Imposible, you can't calculate 3 new variables out of 2 Values. A visualisation of x1/x2 are the points where the parabola cuts through the X-Axis, but you can draw an infinite amount of parabolas through those two points.
