NOW YOU CAN CREATE YOUR VERY OWN RED ANT FASHION STEAMPUNK BUSTLE!
I will show you all the steps in this Tutorial Video how to construct and create your own design for any steampunk or cosplay costume. I have many tips and resources to share that you might not know are actually already at your finger tips. With a little imagination the possibilities are endless.
FLARE FOR YOUR BUM! who doesn't want a ruffly bum? Each piece is unique and a one-of-a-kind. Its a great addition for any steampunk or cosplay outfit. Bustles are for the woman that wants to stand out in the crowd.
I have seen them worn in many different fashions. you can wrap it and tie at waist creating a bustle. wear it in the front as an apron and I have also had women wear them on the side of their dress or skirt so the ruffles sit only on one side of the hip and waist and tie on the other, almost as a hip belt. I also have had women purchase them and wear two around the waist creating a skirt or even wear it as a backless top, using the drawstring to create straps around the neck and criss cross the back.. With a little imagination the bustle has many different functions and can be worn in many different fashion styles.
The drawstrings are rayon/cotton ribbon cording and left extra long so you can cut them to your own length after purchase or choose to keep them long.
My bustles are created from a half circle piece of fabric with strips sewn on creating ruffles. The Bustle is completely serged all around the edges and I like to use different colored thread on my serger to add accent in color as you would with trim. The drawstrings are looped through grommits I have attached on both sides at the top of the bustle. They are each assembled differently with different types of fabrics.
I personally think bustles are a great accent for any Cosplay costume. Make your night memorable and look Fabulous!!!!
THEY ARE NOT JUST CLOTHES, THEY ARE AN EXPERIENCE WAITING TO HAPPEN....step into your imagination and manifest your own story.......
Care Instructions:
Hand wash in cold water and lay flat or hang dry or I would suggest dry clean

Fantastic video, been looking for a while on how to make a bustle for a convention next year where i have to make 3-4 full steampunk style costumes complete with bustles so you are a life saver. Would satin be an ok fabric to use for the bustle of would i need to back it first?

I have used satin many times before on bustles for the ruffles that is. I find you just want to make sure you serge all the edges all the way around each piece so it does not fray. but yes you can use satin for ruffle edges on your bustle and it will work

I only have a very basic sewing machine. Is there a way to do this without an overlocker to do the edges?
@TheCreativeCatalyst555
@TheCreativeCatalyst555 10 жыл бұрын
does your basic sewing machine have the ability to do a zig zag stitch or does it only do straight stitch? if your machine has a zig zag stitch on it then you can zig zag around the edges of all the pieces of fabric before sewing it on the base of the bustle. the zig zag will prevent the fabric from unraveling or fraying. it will give it a ruggid look but it will keep the fabric still neat looking. if your machine only has a straight stitch on it, this is ok. the fabric will fray at the edges and it will have a more organic loook to it. ill post some videos giving examples of both types so you can have a look at what im speaking about.

Hey! Awesome tutorial :). Quick question...... As you sew the pleats on, are you following the arc of the base piece? Or just straight side to side? Sorry if that's an obvious question. I'm not a great seamstress :(

you can do it either way. depending on how i feel the look i want will either sewing the pleated ruffled straight across or follow the curve/arch around when sewing it on. it gives the bustle a different look and falls a slight different depending on which way you decide to sew it on. both ways work and look great it just depends on how you personally perfer it.

Hi and thank you for this video, I personally don't mind "as you can see" and I like "basically" :) However I wanted to ask you a thing. I've seen many times things like sided bustles, they are bended on one side and cover the skirt. I don't know their names, but I've seen there isn't any in your etsy shop, so I wanted to ask you if you can make it, show how to make, and/or suggest other things to apply to it or substitute it. I'm new to this genre of dressing but I wish to have a full outfit one day ^^ So I thank you again for your video and hopefully show you my first sewed bustle one day... PS: Your website domain is on sold, it doesn't exists anymore, do you still sew?

What is the approximate length of each strip that you pleated to create the ruffles.
@TheCreativeCatalyst555
@TheCreativeCatalyst555 10 жыл бұрын
i honestly don't measure those and they vary from piece to piece. i am usually using scraps of fabric so they are all different in lengths and then i serge them on all sides before pleating them. roughly around 30 inches in length but some are shorter and some longer.....
