Creating Acrylic Museum Mounts

Would it help to have a bowl of water nearby to dunk into once you have the tabs in a happy position so it can set faster or will it make it brittle?

You could take a cast of the object, that way you avoid interaction with it.

I understand it is probably a cost thing. Having a sheet of mylar between the mount and the object may help too, not surre if there could be residues transferred. Again we are suppose to treat all objects equally as valuable for their social signifigance.

You could also find something with the same or similar enough curve to use if the object is more fragile.

Normally I use cotton gloves. This was from the education collections, which are generally available for handling.
