Great video as always! I’ve always struggled with a good workflow in making sure all my track levels are balanced acrossed the whole set. Do you have a video that discusses this? Thanks!
@paulos_inskimicroband Жыл бұрын
what I do to make sure things are balanced is I switch the metronome up to a level where it's clear. I use the metronome as a reference and make sure that all of my tracks are juuust at the level where they're inaudible under the metronome. And then I turn everything up. YMMV but that's what works best for me. It won't be perfect and it's impossible to completely optimize without an engineer who can adjust for the room you're playing in.

I'm loving the way you are running this. Just curious... why are you not using Ableton's click? I've downloaded the template, and love the ideas you have.
@jaspermelly3 жыл бұрын
Ableton click and tempo envelope is very invisible, sensitive to errors when by accident shifting the tempo envelope.
@fromstudiotostage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! Nothing wrong with using Live's click. I personally use a MIDI click, "Foundations" so that I can easily adjust subdivisions, turn on/off accent and change the click sound quickly. I talk a bit about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGLadYR_rc6eY9k And demo the click here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKC7gJ-KabuAg6M

Awesome. I had a question about running stereo tracks out of the Audio 4C. Would I be using 2 separate outputs like a 3/4 output? Or would it be a single TRS out that would split into a Left and Right XLR?@@fromstudiotostage

All this sounds great. And clearly works as you seem to be a seasoned expert. But the real question to me half-way through this video is, if im performing live with this sort of linear set up, why am I even using Ableton at all? So I'm not using the session view, which is the entire thing that makes Ableton unique and 'for performance'. From my long experience using traditional linear DAW composition, other DAWs, in particular Reaper as it is near infinitely customisable and routable, is crazy better at all things you describe if we are doing a traditional DAW linear stuff. Surely, this question has come up in your teaching. I'm not knocking your template or system. Seems great and must works given you are a pro at this type of performance. Why should I use Ableton at all for this? I mean that as an honest question. Thanks for the video
@fromstudiotostage2 жыл бұрын
I always suggest running tracks in Arrangement View since a song is linear in nature. Within that linear structure you can do the things Ableton is uniquely good at like, Repeating any song section, jumping around the song in time, changing key/tempo in real-time and most importantly not crashing! I spent years using and teaching people to run tracks in Session View because it was made for live performance, before I realized I was spending tons of time trying to make a non-linear view (Session View) play a linear song, and realized I can get all that for free in Arrangement view and save tons of time.
@davebrown51432 ай бұрын
Hey there, thanks so much for the video! Beginner question here, is this session what you run when you play live? Or are you making a seperate live template for each track to then export to a sort of "master" live session where all your tracks live? Thanks!

Love your stuff! I want to be able use Ableton for playback. However, I've ran into a problem.When I opened the template it was set up in 6/8 time. I changed to 4/4 but the markers didn't change accordingly; marker 2 is at 2.3 and marker 3 is at 4. When I added the 4/4 click it sounds twice as long i.e it's in time but it's in 8/4. How do I go about this? What am I doing wrong? Please help.

Hey great video! But you say that 'we'll see that later' in the tempo and marker section and never go back to them. I am building a show and follow your method with your template but since I have tempo changes in most of my songs, I am still without the info to import my tempo track... I have a audio clic track and a midi track (that has tempo data) and adding it to your clic track wont change the tempo (120) at the top or the grid... I'll have to find another way, by hand I guess in the master track. Thanks anyway.

I've had a few folks get that on Windows. I'm not sure why. It doesn't happen on Mac. The only other possibility is if you moved the original samples from the template and didn't use Collect All and Save.

This setup seems geared more towards traditional band/song type music (chorus, verse, etc) - would you recommend arrangement view for techno folks who work loops too?
@fromstudiotostage2 жыл бұрын
If you’re song has a structure I recommend Arrangement View. If your song is loop-based, meaning no structure, then you should use session view. Regardless of style of music. Keep in mind you can still loop and jump around your arrangement in arrangement view, but if you’re using loops to build up a song in real-time, session view is best

Hello :) I'm using Ableton for our Hip-Hop shows but I'm looking forward to improve my workflow. We use Waves Tune Realtime and every song is in the timeline, one after the other. I used to change tempo with automations but I'm going to try using your technique since it's quicker and easier. My question comes ;) How can I change the Waves Tune Realtime key for each song? At the moment I use automations but they tend to reset randomly... I saw a post somewhere telling the user to create an effects rack with 12 instances of the plugin, each set to 1 key and automate the effects rack instead of the plugin. Do you know which method would be quicker and easier?

Hi there! Do you have any idea why when I drag the Click Tack it says sample offline, even though I do have all the samples in the same folder?
@coranstetter6021 Жыл бұрын
You may need to go into an earlier session where you have the click track and click "collect all and save" - sometimes our audio files that we use in our MIDI (like the click track) are on a different harddrive. If you just click "save" - it doesn't copy those audio files to follow the new session - it just pulls them from the original folder / harddrive. If you click "collect all and save" any time that you make a big change or add new audio files, it ensures that Ableton creates copies of the files into the new session.
