Wouldn't it be easier to configure the 8266 as the access point? Then any device (smartphone, laptop, etc.) could connect directly to the 8266. Your configuration relies on the smartphone as the access point ... what happens if the battery runs down?

I think using already available wifi router at home is a good and reliable option. It is turned on all the time in most homes. Coming to your suggestion of making esp8266 as an access point will not be preferred by the user as he wouldn't want to leave the current wifi network giving him internet access. So its better to just connect your esp8266 to your current home network and control it from all devices. Its just my opinion and obviously there could be many other ways to do it.

Code doesn't work. Of course I edited it to reflect the correct IP address. I can ping the ESP8266. I can watch the Arduino interact with the ESP8266 via the serial monitor, it all looks fine. Nothing on my network can connect to the IP address, it won't respond. Lame.

Hi, I configured the esp8266 wifi module as an access point, then docklight scripting V2.2 connected esp866 with 192.168.4.1:1025 port and send data periodically 0.5 second to server. But server read data and it breaks off in a few seconds. How can I prevent the server from going down.

When you say in the title web server YOU SHOULD say LOCAL WEB SERVER this doesnt work when you are not connected to your network !I dont have a problem but new people here get confused SO GIVE BETTER TITLES
