It took me 20 hours to fully complete this tutorial, but it was worth it! I learned to work with Substance Designer and got some good foliage

Thank you for sharing this tutorial. It has been incredibly helpful in my journey of studying Substance Painter! Following along step by step allows for a great learning experience. There is so much to learn from this tutorial.

Guys, this isn't a tutorial, this is a breakdown. There's a difference. Looks to be sped up 10x, so maybe 8h of real-time work.

anytime I watch or follow a substance designer or blender shader tutorial, I am very much concerned with the why? with thousands of nodes to choose from, am more interested in why the creator is using a specific node, is it to create cracks? blend two materials? subtract layers? and after a while, a couple of the nodes will be reduced to about 10....yup. You don't need all the nodes on the planet because a couple of them can actually get the results done. Secondly, within substance designer, there are prebuilt nodes that you can take advantage of rather than always starting from scratch. Finally, node creation is experimental! Sometimes the node you want to displace a material ends up creating a funny noise...the node you want to create noise ends up adding cracks, and the function you want to use to remove color ends up being the best node for material blending. Finally, if you want to understand the software, understand how materials and nature layers things, for instance, if you study muddy rocky soil, look at the rocks, the scratches, the color variation, soil particle size, etc. you don't have to be an expert. just look at the properties and think (how can I create each one separately, how can I create the color, how can I add scratches, etc) that way you will realize that this is what will make you better. All the best to all material artists out there. If you are a beginner like me, focus on the "why", why this node was used, why did the instructor use this...and create simple materials. Don't go all crazy and expect to understand it all in 1 go. This will lead to burnout (and smashing walls lol) and you may become overwhelmed. Take breaks, and yes it's okay to spend 1 week on a 30 mins video as long as you are getting it. All the best in your substance designer adventures. May the nodes be with you.

Not just the speed, if you are going to do anything, SHOW us what you did, don't just do as fast as you can. It's better to have other video parts than one that it's really hard to follow because of the speed.

I know this was 2 years ago; but for reals, this was done way way too fast. Following along has been an exceptional chore.

I don't know what has changed in 2 years but the results I'm getting look absolutely nothing like whats in this video. Something about the Non-uniform blur technique or the way normals are handled is creating artefacting so bad that im confused enough to comment about it on a KZbin video.

Same thing here, I tried a couple different blurs which didnt get a nice result, and just increasing the Samples and Blades amount on the Non Uniform blur didn't make it that much better

Cool effect but like a lot of people are saying this is a terrible tutorial. We don’t need to know what you’re doing, we can see that. We need to know Why and How you are doing it. Either slow it down or at least show more on screen of what you’re doing in the nodes, with clicks and shortcuts, etc.

Your not wrong, it's more of a demo than a tutorial, but I did get quite a lot of useful info out of it watching with the speed set to 0.5
