Thanks for doing this. Apple now has 40 years of having Macs with scripting capabilities that they never bother to truly document or have training material available to the customer. So you're doing the work.

Just for your information Gary, the System Settings link (at the bottom of your list) to headphones or AirPods link does work after all, but your headphones or AirPods, if Bluetooth need to be connected and in your ears at the time for the link to work.

Thanks for such a great channel. While back I shared frustration over NUMBERS seemingly adding space in front of some text entries. I have finally figured out what it was.... "TEXT INSET". For some reason, some of the text entries had this setting higher than 0! No idea why. Fixed!

Ha! I got one for iPhone to Toggle the 'Silence Unknown Callers' setting (prefs:root=Phone&path=SILENCE_CALLS) it takes me straight there! Normally I always keep it on (silenced) but occasionally I disable it if expecting a call from a business, for example, that I will not know the real number incoming (not the PBX number) so that isn't in my contacts list. It's a pain to go to settings then apps, then phone, then toggle...This takes it right there! WIN!

Hi Gary. Very informative tq! I have long wanted to create on automation on my MacBook to “speak” when it’s charge state reaches say 80%. It’s easy to do on iPhone and iPad but I can’t figure how to do it on my MB. A video on making the MB speak certain occurrences or circumstances would be very useful 😊
@macmostАй бұрын
What's the purposed of such an automation? What would it be important to know that?
@tonymeadows100Ай бұрын
@@macmost Thank you for your kindly for your interest. Specifically, the purpose I have in mind is for my MB to issue an advisory that my MB had charged to say, 80%, so I could decide to stop charging, to help preserve the battery life. Currently I have to use AIDente (free option) from AppHouseKitchen to achieve the same end. I currently have automations on my iPhone and iPad to announce their charge levels at 80%. Also it may be useful to have my MB "tell" me about other transient conditions, such as SSD 90% 🤔🤷♂
@macmostАй бұрын
@@tonymeadows100 You don't need to do that. In fact you shouldn't micromanage your battery that way. Look in the Energy settings, the Charging settings. Set that as you like and let the system optimize things. Don't use an app to do that, or micromanage it yourself as that won't help and will probably actually be worse. Let the system do its thing. It is fine to keep it plugged in.
@tonymeadows100Ай бұрын
@@macmost Tqvm! In my M1 MBA I finally found in Settings>Battery>Battery Health that by clicking the (i) button, it reveals the "Optimized Battery Charging" switch, which was set to off - it's now on 🤦♂ Thank you again. Would "speech" be of any use regarding the SSD and CPU levels, as notes above, or am I just being too nerdy 🤓?

The OG Apple Mac tutor strikes again. 👏👏👏 Really eye opening stuff. Thanks for sharing 🙏 Is it possible to link a cell in Apple Numbers spreadsheet to a photo of a receipt stored in a different folder in Mac? So that if you click that cell, the photo of the receipt is displayed by Preview or Quick Look?
@macmostАй бұрын
Not really. Probably best to come up with something more sustainable, like naming the receipt files consistently so you can find them if needed.

Hey Gary, I've noticed that the list of URL's provided have been placed on my phone as well due no doubt to handoff and continuity. The problem is they don't work on the phone AND yet they reside at the top of my shortcuts list in the phone. This means I have to scroll down to get to more commonly used shortcuts. Is there any way of getting these short cuts to work on the phone? If not - having them reside at the bottom of the list? Have you encountered this problem with your shortcuts from your Mac appearing on your phone? Cheers.

Your Shortcuts appear across all of your devices. Sounds like you want to create some folders and group your Shortcuts to meet your needs.

Great video as usual. One issue that I found and maybe you have a workaround... I created one to open the "SOUND" section of settings. I have some aggregate output settings that I need to access frequently so I thought it would be a great one to do. It works but the listing through the shortcut has the Output settings list in an abbreviated form. You get a max of 8 characters that then has a ... (dot, dot, dot) appended to it. There does not appear to be a way to expand this or hover over to expand. If I access it through Sytem Settings directly, it is expanded. So an example is "Air Pods Pro #2 + BH". This shows through the shortcut as "Air Pods...". Any ideas would be appreciated.
@macmostАй бұрын
Interesting. When I tried it the Output list looked exactly the same as what I get if I manually go there in System Settings.

I could send you screen captures if you provide a way. I am running Mac Os 15.2 on a M4 Macbook Pro Max full config except for 4TB storage instead of the 8TB I have on my M3 version. I also have some feedback on your course on Numbers that I am currently taking that would be hard to provide with just words.
@macmostАй бұрын
@@thomasnewsom6084 There's no need to send a screenshot about the sound settings. I believe you, I was just providing another data point for you to consider: that it isn't something happening to everyone. Knowing that may or may not help. As for Numbers course feedback, you can use macmost.com/ask for that. Thanks.
