Creating Model Railway Scenery & Backdrop February Update 2024

February 2024 all ready and it has been a busy month so far on the layout! In this episode I try to show some of the techniques I employed to create the scenery and backdrop of this 00 gauge model railway layout. Been a very long time since I built my last layout and I am racking my brains to remember how and what I used to do. The eyesight ain't what it used to be and the hands certainly ain't as steady but I persevere. I decided wisely or not, to have a go at painting my own backdrop. What could possible go wrong I thought. So, do watch through to that point as I think I did ok(ish) in the end but was touch and go.

The shots are limited at the moment as this is only a 9 foot by 2 foot L shaped layout. Hey @LetsGo_41, thank you. I was very pleased with the way the rocks came out in the end. Actually I was pleased and surprised that most of it came out ok, I really was unsure how to go about everything to start with.

Just got back from work and watched the whole video with a glass of whiskey. Tell you what, bloody brilliant - but that text was going fast the more whiskey I drank the harder it got to read 👍 great stuff looks brilliant that, if I could do rocks and landscape that looked like that Liberty Junction wouldn’t have so many brick retaining walls 😂😂 👍

Hey Sion, your wish was my command lol. It has been over nearly 50 years since I last did anything like this. Have to say the old hands and the eyesight clearly ain't what they used to be. Plans now to move onto the station area and scratch build the station. Wish me luck.

I thought to myself if it is a mess in the end then I can always paint over it and get something else. Nothing ventured, nothing gained sort of approach. We all do what we can and enjoy what we have.

It's great to watch the scenery evolve. It looks good, especially from the angle filmed at when the train is running. Next stop, Choberton Junction, and then on to Dylington for some custard 😁 looking really good......cheers James 🙂👍

Masterfully done 👍 works really well with your scene. Out of interest, as we both have this issue with the beam and ceiling, are you thinking of painting them? Been crossing my mind 🤔

Hey @_RandomPea, thank you. The jury is out on the beam been, I have been thinking about it and it really is quite intrusive especially that colour. Defo hide or blend it in somehow.

@_RandomPea, don't it just months of work ran past in 6 minutes lol. I think for my beam maybe when I paint the other wall backdrop I will try to paint it in then what is still visible I will also paint white.
