i think the problem with the smaller models is that the piston’s rotational point is moving in an arc so they get stuck when you shove a super long piston with relatively small joints into narrow gaps

Could remove the pistons and run the rockets straight on the plate. Could even get a throttle in with rocket power and how many of the rockets fire and when. A ring of rockets around the entire plate.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t it be beneficial to have the disc a little bit offset from the piston in the starting position because when the top piston is pushing on the highest point on the swash plate wouldn’t that bind up and create stress?

I think engines are going to be interesting at a deeper level, but aren't great for thumbnail and title intrigue. Maybe try phrasing it like you're making experimental, exotic stuff, and that you're taking the game to its absolute limits.
