It’s 99 percent prep .... then laying your sod or grown your seed is relatively easy. At least in my opinion because getting your lawn completely smooth and or level is so much more harder when your grass is nice and settled in place. I just think if you are able to make sure your ground looks the way you want it BEFORE you seed it or sod it .... because it MUCH more enjoyable when your sand or seed starts really growing! Because then all you need to do really is a bit of fine tuning with some sand and your good 👍🏻

Use a product called "weed n feed" if u get that where u live, u will probably need to use it a few times. With my kikuyu I drown a 4ltr bottle on it then wait a month and hit it with another and my lawn areas isn't that big.

You should use Culterra Topsoil for lawn leveling. Its proper river sand - and use a mesh filter to filter the very few pepples/stones it might contain.

My lawn is was looking good then to dogs decided it looks to good. Advise on lawn dressing. Can I add dressing and chemical fertilizer?

Lets see you overseed the Kikuyu with Kik-Over seeds in late March early April. Kik-Over seeds are the perfect overseed for SA winter. And the Kikuyu then overgrows the Kik-Over in September as the Kikuyu comes out of dormancy. Mayford Kik-Over seeds.

Thanks for these tips! I just put new Kikuyu sod down 3 weeks ago it's looking really good, but I need to level it. Will be over seed with this in early April.

You made a mistake with all that water at the end. Thats a no-no. You leveled nothing with all that water.

How can he have levelled nothing🤣🤣 water will just push the sand into the low spots and allow the blades through as to not suffocate and turn the grass yellow underneath. Start your own channel so you can show us your 10mm kikuyu with kikover and culterra lawn dressing.

@@Skurvster you get run off. It just washes the sand sideways. Best to VERY LIGHTLY dampen the soil only. It also “cements” the sand and it forms like a cake/clay on the lawn instead of settling in between the blades and onto the soil level

@@greggb557 if the lawn is on a slope then yes, I agree, run off is possible, but on a flat lawn, the sand has no choice but to wash down to the lowest point filling in the dips. How do you water your lawn then after doing a sand level?

@@Skurvster you have to keep it damp for 3-5 days. That’s it. A short watering in the AM and again in the PM.

@@greggb557 Sounds like a recipe for leaf spot disease🤣 Considering my kikuyu grows through the concrete grouting of my paving, I don’t think it’s going to have a problem getting through some caked up sand. Each to their own, watering in has always worked well for me without any issues.
