We are looking to make the jump from a Sketchup + Layout workflow to VW. It's a big learning curve, but seems even in Landscape Architecture, BIM is the way of the future. You're video was great and definitely puts me a little more at ease about the time/$ investment! Thanks for sharing!

great vids. Is there an easy way to "crop" a section viewport so it doesn't show geometry beyond a certain point? For example I am making sections of room outlet locations and I am having trouble because the sections are showing the rooms behind the one I am working on.

I found the finite depth option in advanced, but it would be so much easier to be able to drag a box around the section you want. and crop out the rest.

Thank you for your comment. Yes is the answer you can do what you want. I haven't covered in this movie but if you go to the advanced properties and look at extents you can see that there's a horizontal extent and this will control how far back you see in the section view report. This is a great comment and I really appreciate it because it's a great idea for another movie. I'll get right onto it

Hi Jonathan, where would I find the ‘Section Style Faded’ ? Is this a style in VW libraries? Cheers Grethe
@archoncad Жыл бұрын
Hi. The section faded style is a class that I have created. Create a class called “section faded style”. When you create this class, set the options to be “use at creation”, then set the graphic style to be a thin, light gray line for the white fill. I have been using this class for a long time and it is now a part of my layer and class standards so that I can import it quickly when I need to. I have to think my friend Grant for this trick.

Hey Jonathan, thanks for the great vid 😘👌🏼 Having a bit of trouble with the 'section style faded' step and wondering if you might be able to help. When I click the use classes bit, literally nothing comes up in my drop down!? My classes seem to be activated.. bit confused. Thanks a mil

The section style faded is a class that I made in order to make the lines faded. I thank the great Micheal K for that trick. He showed me that decades ago and I still use it. You will have to create your own class called section style faded, edit the class to have the line weight, line colour, and line style that you want. Then you should be able to choose that in your advanced settings. I should make a members only video on this...

I'm a Revit user and I'm interested in learning Vectorworks, I noticed that you used hatching to do your site fill, my question is this: is there no way of modelling the site in 3d and have the section cut through it too?
@archoncad Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment. You can create the site model, that’s how I got the accurate ground line, but i don’t like the site model graphics, so I created my own hatch and draw it the way I used to in the old days BC (Before CAD). You can turn on the site model and see the site, you can choose to see the existing site, or the proposed site. Vectorworks will calculate the cut and fill quantities from the existing and proposed site.
