Your videos are great. You really go into some details that often get overlooked, such as alignment and things that a lot of folks take for granted. Thanks.

I have been looking for a different source on this topic for a long time. The video is really informative. Actually, I am also curious about your ideas on adding plastic squares to the hull.

I wonder how this would work on 1/700 scale?

Hi Paul, may I know if you would consider using laser-cut wood deck stickers that can be pasted onto the ship model directly? There is a big debate on this. If you would not consider using it. Could you please give us your thoughts about wood deck stickers that are sold as aftermarket accessories for ship models? Thanks!

I think wood is a great idea for larger scales ... for me ... the grain is too coarse for 1/350. Also, I don't trust the adhesive for the long term.

Thank you so much Paul for your reply, it is greatly appreciated! I notice though that on your 1/350 USS Washington BB-56 1942, you use N scale car siding from Evergreen to simulate the wooden deck. However, the car siding plastic strip gives the impression of extremely long single planks that run fore and doesn't really simulate the deck planking patterns (2,3,4 or 5 deck patterns with short planks) normally found on ships. Did you decide to omit the deck patterns because they are too small to be seen on 1/350? Also, would you have any tips on how you would make the deck look as similar as possible to real wood at this scale? I thought about using very fine and thin brown paper or even wood decals because the effect would be difficult to achieve with paint. I would be grateful if you could share your thoughts on this! Thank you!

It seems to me it would be much easier and provide much crisper details to just use strips of 0.02" or 0.03" styrene to actually create the raised panels.
