Well done Troy: simple, clear and helpful! A lot of people have wanted to understand this one, myself included. As you said, it's just bones controlling other bones! Thanks

One of the coolest things I've seen as a newbie to Moho. I struggled a bit with some of the bone anchoring... you talked about making sure none of the controller bones were childs, but I actually had to create a parent bone for both of the bones that ultimately controlled the gimbal... otherwise they moved around. Probably newbie error, bur nonetheless... I ended up with something VERY cool that I am excited about! Thank you!

Nice tutorial Troy :) couple of extra tips; You can use a single action if you put one extreme on frame one and the other extreme on frame X, might be slightly easier to manage. Also, I would recommend having way more than 40-something frames on the rotations, both on the original turn actions and the controller ones - the smoothness of animation when turning the bones very slowly is directly related to the number of actual frames inside a smart bone - so more extreme movements in only 40 frames will look ‘stepped’... go with 100+ frames, or more depending on requirements (you can always go back in later and make the actions take more frames, but this can be avoided if you do it from the start. Finally, I recommend all smart bone action frames are set to ‘linear’, that way any easing can be predictably controlled from the main time line, rather than having compound easing effecting your expected movement.

Pretty cool trick Troy, I think it's important to notice that to get this to work, what you need is first to have the smart dials for turn up-down and left-rigth movement (of the head in this case) working correctly, the effect to use this kind of controler its very pretty, anyway keep going, thanks

No problem, Troy! So, I was thinking about this, wouldn't it be better to have the keyframe in your Controller action on frame 1? That way you have infinite interpolation and the way you have it, it has the risk of making the head turn go a bit jagged, or am I mistaken? Also, I always put my keyframes inside smartbones and actions on "linear", to avoid having a built in slowing in and out. What are your thoughts on that?
@troypicou6 жыл бұрын
Club Baboo you are totally correct on both points. Thanks for posting so others can lean.

very nice Troy. new to moho pro (fiddled with debut). new also to smart bone dials which is awesome but had thought that after a while the dials would get out of hand. thank you for this creative tip for simplifying and organizing. i guess it would be better to put those disks outside of the frame though so they don't become part of the animation right, or is there a way to hide them as well? Thanks again.

Thanks for the tut Troy, but i have an issue with that, maybe you can help me. In design mode it looks like it's working great, but if you forward one frame in animation mode, the bones of hair are not moving and following the target. I tried this on a character and it doesn't work, even with your character at your video. if you see the bones of her hair are not following. Am I missing something?

Old video, im a pretty experienced moho user and ive seen this & other videos many times before. But somehow i just cannot get this to work at all. I set up all the smart bone dials just fine, i can get all the up/down etc motion set up. But then when i finally target them at the target bone and move it around, nothing works at all, both on 0 frame as anywhere in the timeline. But even when i disconnect the target bone and try and move the control bones on the controller, they animate nothing. Nothing in the smart bone dials is moving under any circumstance other then in the smart bone setup. I just have no idea anymore as to why that is. I dont see any reason for it to behave like this, it should work as its all set up exactly like in this video... If anyone knows what im talking about & familiar with this issue, please help me out here thanks.

how do you make the controller follow the character when you put him in a different position, like bending tilting his head, bending over, etc.? And, how do you keep the controller from rendering in your final scene? How do you make bones appear and disappear automatically when the character is in certain positions?
@troypicou3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think that is possible with this method.

Great tip, but unfortunately it did not work for me for some reason. When I connected my main head tilt controller to the new rig controller bone, all worked well, but as soon as I target this rig controller bone to a target bone, then my smart dial action is not working as it should, more precisely bone transformation inside the actions are not playing. Remove the target and it works. Add target to the main tilt bone directly, it works, but add target to the bone that drives the main smart dial action bone, not working. Tested it in new scene also and the results is the same: Bone target bug 1. Create smart dial action that drives bones 2. Drive that smart dial with another bone (connect it with action) 3. Create a target for that driver's bone and this will not drive the bone animation inside the smart dial action created first (when animating). MOHO v13
