FYI - to round the corners on a mac, after creating my rounded rectangle, I had to click the little arrow next to "Add" (which is to the right of the stroke color and size up top) and then click on Round Corners. It appears in the timeline under your shape in the Contents section, then under Rectangle 1. There you can drag the radius number left or right or type in a number. Also - my polygon automatically created a pentagon rather than a hexagon. My up/down buttons did work in this case to change the number of sides. Hope this helps!

@@GreatBearProductions ans copied frm comment below I am not certain about the proper shortcut, but in Layer menu under polygon name (in this example Contents/Polystar 1/ Polystar Path 1) there is an option Points. Lowering the number of Points to three transforms the polygon into a triangle. According to After Effects use guide, the arrow keys increase/decrease sides only while actually dragging the shape, not after it is finished. I quickly tested this and it worked. Link below:

This course is a lifesaver so far. I have a sudden position change at my job into motion graphics and I have close to no experience with AE, but a lot of experience with PS. They look similar so I thought I could figure it out on my own quickly, which I could but I was learning the wrong way and getting bad habits. You are a remarkable instructor. Your many examples help drive home the way AE works and shows a variety of ways to use it. Really helps instill confidence. My only problem in this video was at the last as you showed how to use Vector Graphics. In both the London Eye and Pin when I attempted to "Create", the option to create a new shape was greyed out. Must be my computer setup since (almost) every in other exercise I have been able to follow your lead perfectly. This is the best online course I have ever taken. Thumbs up for every video continue to be at the 97%+ range. I've never seen that in YT. I'll go back to video 1 and make a strong recommendation so those considering the course will take it and acquire the assets. Speaking of which, is there a place I can pay more? Patreon? You are worth far more than I have paid.

I've got this same problem, but realized you need to double click on the Big Ben image to open up as it's own composition within the main comp. Only then was the 'create vector from shape' available. And it shows up differently in the layers panel too. You need to go into the composition to see the different groups and apply effects, etc.

Question GDS or other (paid). I changed the preference setting to keep anchor points in the center of the shape but on the vast majority of the shapes after they were built, the anchor point is not located in the center. Is there a way to force the anchor point back into the center?

I bought the course and so far it's really good. But I stumbled upon something and I dont know how to fix it. Whenever I use the star shape tool, under polystar1 I have "Path1" instead of "Polystar Path1" and in "Path1" there is only one parameter I can modify, which is "Path". Are there some settings I need to tweak? Thanks!

after dragging shape you can quickly click with control key on 'pan behind tool' icon, it will place anchor in the middle

@@Juliasagirova This doesn't work... It does put the anchor point in the center of the shape when you hit "pan behind tool" icon, right after you create a shape. But when you deselect the layer and then select it again - the ancor point is again in the center of the composition, not the shape...

I've been trying to update AE for a while, and it always gives me an error, so I'm stuck with CC 2015. Anyone know if the option to always place anchor points inside new vector objects is an option anywhere else?

Max B I have the same problem on CS6 :( Only thing I’ve found to work is to hold control while dragging the anchor point using the pan behind tool and dragging it to the shape, it’ll then snap to the Centre

ok so im not the only one. AT 9:45 When I go to make a polygon it is not a hexagon it is a pentagon. Is there a way to make multi sided objects beside pentagon? it is really frustrating trying to follow this and its a pentagon I feel like I'm doing it wrong help?

I kind of figured out by dragging to create a star and while holding the key on the mouse pad i pressed control (PC) to change the point length. But I can't re edit the point length once i let go of the mouse pad and control buttons.

I'm working with windows and each time I try to import I'm being asked how I want to import it. For example, the PIN asks if I should import as footage, composition-retain layers or composition. Should I leave it as footage?

You didn’t explain how to change from a pentagon to a hexagon. Also for those of you that were confused with preferences, I think after effects actually changed the name of the preferences page from preferences to settings when you click on After Effects in the top left corner. Stupid and meaningless change, but whatever. Edit: I was wrong, sorry😅 But the name change from “preferences” to “settings” in the top left corner is still dumb.
