I'm a US viewer and I have played OMAN many times. I used to have a few mods downloaded that let you "zoom in" to a region of the world, ex. Asia, Europe, Middle East, Americas, so that all other land would be empty and impassable and you could play a quick game on a region with a lot less lag. I've played just about every nation in these regions several times. My favorites were any of azerbiajan/georgia/Armenia or turkey, saudi Arabia, and Kuwait in the middle eastern map, but Oman is in fact playable

Player lead peace conferences is the only mod that doesn't really break. I've been using the same one since Waking the Tiger and it will work until Paradox updates peace coferences, which won't be this year to say the least.
