Really good stuff mate honestly, have watched all parts and in my opinion is the best tutorial on KZbin regarding Jon Hopkins production techniques.

Agreed. So thankful you made this tutorial. Its crazy to to think his music was made a similar way with just a dude in a room on a computer. The music feels like it came from some interdimensional being birthed from a black hole sent here to teach us the meaning of love, life, death, and the birth of reality lol

This is very cool, I’ve always wondered how to emulate some of that bass oscillator sounds he does especially on Open Eye Signal, I dream of making that sound. This helps! ❤

Best youtube tutorial series about Jon Hopkins on KZbin. Great work! Hope to see more tutorials on this in the future, Thank you! :)

Thanks dude really appreciate that! Not sure if we'll be looking at Jon Hopkins again soon but we've a series focused on the sounds of others artists too so hopefully there's something cool in there for you :)

You probably know this, but you can right-click on a channel (anywhere in the channel "box", like below the two drop-down menus for picking a device and parameter to automate, and choose "add lane for each automated envelope". It will pop up a lane for every parameter you've automated....very useful when you've done a bunch and want to see them all. Edit: BTW, is LFO1 on the analog actually doing anything? It doesn't look like any parameters are mapped to it. Fil2 is mapped to LFO2 for both freq and res mods..but doesn't look like either Fil1 or Amp1 are mapped to LFO1

Saturator has an output knob you can compansate the gain with mate ;). Excellent work! Sounds glorious.

Sure is haha.. fine spot ;) Glad you're feeling it!

Brilliant! Could you by any chance cover the LFO settings? I'm super curious

Will see what we can do :)

Hey great tutorial. Wondering, regarding the LFOs on the bass, what do you have them affecting? Thanks
@TouchLoops2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate - We're using the LFO tool as an enveloper generator. It's moving around so it modulates the volume envelope randomly. You end up with random short and long notes. You could actually do this is in the synth if you wanted by using Ableton LFO tool on the release of the envelope. LFO Tool just offers a few more parameters. Does that help? Hope so haha! Cheers

Thanks so much, this is really a great tutorial! Compliments on how close this is to the original. The tinyurl links don't work anymore unfortunately. Are the techno samples packs and free sampes still available somewhere? Thanks!
@TouchLoops3 жыл бұрын
Yo thanks! Glad it was helpful! I've tweaked the links at the bottom now so you're good to go. If you search our site you'll find lots of free sounds as well as a fair few techno options too :D cheers!

It doesnt really sound like jon hopkins original, but it gets close. Just goes to show why jon hopkins is jon hopkins.. there is a certain perfection and magic in his work that is hard to recreate

just watched the whole thing and i'm still unclear on what's creating the sucking, changing decay of each of the bass notes. is it filter movement, pitch envelope, amp envelope automation?
@TouchLoops Жыл бұрын
Hi there. So, it's combination of filter envelope, heavy side chaining and note length in the midi. The LFO is gently moving the cut off freq around but the main work is being done by the envelope on the filter and the filter envelope amount. After that the processing brings out the harmonics plus automating your choice of paramaters will also add interest.

awesome - thanks!@@TouchLoops

you didnt say where the lfos are routed..
@TouchLoops Жыл бұрын
Hi mate! They're just nudging the filter around. The main effect is driven by those quick envelopes. Cheers

Great tutorial but the cost of all those plug ins!! Costs more than Ableton itself
@TouchLoops9 ай бұрын
Yep, I'm with you! All I would say is the principles are more important then the brands really - these just happen to be the ones we've amassed over time. Ableton does an amazing job and equally has the same EQ's, compressors, saturators and distortions. Just apply the same concepts using those and you'll be onto a winner! 👌
