The point is that Melodyne chops upper harmonics even without creating these harmonies. I've inputted a vocal track (light and airy) and then saved it with no editing, but the upper harmonics vanish, and the result is a subtle and unpleasant 'honkyness'. But also, even when I tried creating the harmonies exactly as instructed here it sounded like Sparky's Magic Piano. I've found that tight choir creation is better by creating multiple individual tracks with Melodyne and then mixing them.

hmm, interesting. Does it also do this if you render the vocal to a stem track after processing? I imagine it might downsample the audio to get better cpu usage when using it as an insert and for tweaking, and that'll cause loss of audio definition. Might also be the pitch-correcting algorithm, but melodyne is fast becoming an industry standard used by pros, and i would imagine they'd notice stuff like this.

Instead of watching the whole video, the answer is roughly at 4:40 - holding alt and shift to copy/drag the notes to the next harmony desired.

Do you think you could do a tutorial on how to do Tech N9ne style harmonies ? "Bloody Murdah" this is a collab with his Rittz you can hear the harmonies blended together to give an almost Choir like sound. And also another artist from Strange Music, Stevie Stone has a song called "Outer Lane" So really what I wonder can I do this inside of my Melodyne ?

My melodyne (Assistant) doesn't show multiple tracks. It shows notes. Anyone know how I can get the tracks to show up like in this guy's video? I've searched Google and can't find my answer....

hi! i have the melodyne vst plugin & i use it with fl studio9. when i hold alt+shift, it doesn't copy the notes.. it just moves the note without snapping. plz help me with this.. thanx.

I personally think you should use melodyne to figure out what ur harmonies should be then sing them in. That way you get a more natural sound. But thats just me

Has anyone else had this problem? I have purchased Celemony Melodyne Editor 2 for my Macbook Pro laptop. After opening the package I then inserted the disc into my laptop, then, my laptop with the disc inside it started to make a loud humming noise for about a minture before ejecting it out. I tried it multiple times, but the same thing just kept happening. The installation window did not pop up at all nor did any option to run the program, everytime I inserted the disc it would just make that humming noise, then eject. I have searched carefully on their website and all over the internet for troubleshooting or answers, but no information for the problem I am experiencing comes up. This is very frustrating and Id very much appreciate it if anyone could get back to me. Thank you.

hi, i have a question...i tried to make a harmony in melodyne and successfully made a copy of the vocals and moved them up, but when i pushed spacebar to hear it i only heard the new copy and not both together like when you did it..i have it on play whats shown, do you know whats wrong?

when you create harmonies artificially, you basically copy the exact same performance and modify it, and then pit it against the original. That will always cause phase problems. When recording real harmonies, each track is a different performance, and minium phase cancellation and comb filtering occurs. Never double anything and just leave it as is, you have to give it some delay(3-5 ms).

Phase problems caused by what? I've only ever loaded monophonic audio files into Melodyne, so there is nothing to cause it to be counter-phase with. It's this issue with Melodyne that also screws up certain vowels, making them sound as if the vocalist has a bubble of saliva over their mouth.

I did this for the harmonies and it just sounded like Sparky's Magic Piano. Not good at all. Considering that it also kills the upper frequencies in vocals, this program is way overpriced. I suggest they actually get someone to develop it who can actually hear frequencies above 12kHz.

The problem with this approach is the same problem with autotune approaches, it changes the timbre of a voice and makes it unpleasant and artificial instead of warm and alive. When I hear vocals like the ones you led into the video with I cringe. If you lowered the volume of the harmonized vocals so that the original recording was dominant it would sound much better. Think John and Paul singing like a single voice VS 3 part harmony.
