Due to my recent horrible complete rebuild (from the ground up) experience and all the money I lost putting into a 1986 Dodge Class B…and, the fact if I had ‘you’ build me a van it’d be ions before I received it being so far down on the list. I can’t wait any longer…I’m 71, been dormant for 9 years, and, my clock is quickly ticking. I’m sure you see my dilemma. But! I’m quite confident that you could even make great additions/changes to even the future camper I’m buying! A picture of a finished carving may be beautiful in itself, but there is so much more to the story to understand that a line or curve came about not only because of the beauty of the end carving, but also because the stone carver had to understand the flaws in the stone underneath the chisel.

Good morning, George! Ah, another great van build with my Sunday breakfast and coffee. I love it! You are the greatest van builder on the planet, and I am your greatest fan (or one of them). Just stating the facts. Your uncompromising technical perfection and artistry are a role model for us all, and for the RV industry. You have single-handedly changed this industry forever. There are other companies that do great work too but they don't make the videos showing how, they hide their secrets and so their work is not known to most. You do both, and that makes you unique and fearless. I work in Tech. We build software systems. Since we are matched against computers that make the tiniest mistake into a neon-glaring, lights flashing, sound beeping huge error alarms, we have to be perfectionists too. There is a common saying in software building: You can have it CHEAP, GOOD, FAST - Pick any two, but you cannot have all three. So too, with any project like van conversions. Good + Fast ain't Cheap. Cheap + Fast ain't Good. Fast + Good ain't Cheap. 😂 Thanks for a great tour. Yes, that White Chocolate is sumptuous and decadent in luxurious feel, but Walnut Wood is still king.

I hope the couple is young, the bed ingress and egress seems a bit tight especially with the wood bits holding in the mattress. Once the bed steps are deployed, the contents would fall out of the box without a net or something similar. The simplest, most efficient diverted toilet I have seen is the Trelino. The airline cabinets are a cool style idea, it would be neat to see them with clothes and whatnot in them. Neat videos that you do George, thanks for sharing with us.

Not directly aimed at Debbie and John. They are ideal clients who understand what's going on here. I have had two or three clients who got so hung up on the fact that the van was late, they lost sight of the intent here, which is pure creative solutions. One of them could no longer look me in the eyes! But then once they got their vans, all was forgotten and the smiles shone bright. I get new inquiries, based on watching my videos, so it is important to me that they are aware of and understand every aspect of commissioning a Humble Road custom van.

Is there a reason you've never done a dual twin bed setup? Such a floorplan has become increasingly popular with production builders of RVs and trailers. I'd love to see you do something similar. It would gain a lot of usable floor space and allow the beds to double as daytime lounging/eating/dressing/working space.

A twin bed set up does not offer the same amount of garage/storage space as a double fixed bed, I am not opposed to building a twin bed floorplan, I just have never been asked.

We have a toilet like Deb and John’s, I didn’t notice any vent for it, I really believe that’ll be a big mistake, especially it being right there in the dining/living area. We pull ours out to shower and it’s smellable 🥴 when in our shower it’s hooked back to the vent.

Welcome to the world of nomadic cooling in my personal opinion they’re still not ready for prime time I’ve installed six of them each one being designed and manufactured differently. Very little literature and customer support is not great, but the unit themselves work quietly and they sip power however I would only install them on the insistence of my client.

No, to leave the pantry in the open position while prepping is dangerous. One errant bump and you could tear it off its glides.

A pantry is designed to be slid in and out, and hold a decent amount of weight. Any lateral force will certainly bend or tear at the glides. Let's do a test. Open one of your kitchen drawers and with unwitting force, slam it sideways. Let's see what happens. Go ahead, we'll wait.

Here I am, in Montana, generally smiling. I am constantly impressed with the attention to detail, quality and innovation that inform your work. That said, I am not crazy about the solution you came up with to getting in the bed. I would send that one back to the boys in the lab and see if there isn't a more clever and elegant way to solve that issue. I like the airline cabinet solution, though. And the deep sinks. And the cherry wood detail is brilliant.

Black is our accent color throughout the van an intentional design choice. Squeegee doors require framework for them to work properly. That framework would just get in the way when it’s a living room our shower curtain curves all the way around 360° squeegees don’t do that.

Part 1 of 2: Good morning, ‘Mr. Humble’: just finished watching your latest KZbin video and in the process of trying to get my Brain Booted Up this morning for my first liter of coffee for the day, a few thoughts occurred to me. (Note: considering I was only and them still partway through the overall process of crawling out of my sarcophagus and trying to function for the day, it is quite possible I either missed or did not understand correctly everything you were trying to communicate so maybe some of my ideas below have no merit but, maybe they do). Anyway, three separate ideas occurred to me while watching your video: (Note: split my posting into two parts to make sure it will fit in allowable ‘comment posting space’ on KZbin). First of all, regarding your (how to describe it best?) innovative idea for that ‘pull out, step up slide out’ to be used to ‘greatly facilitate’ ascent and descent into the bed of the vehicle while at the same time minimizing chances of injury which might conceivably even require hospitalization to treat such things as hip fractures and so on (Neat Idea) - focusing on something you pointed out about ‘not wasting space’ and utilizing that ‘space in the upper step’ by leaving it ‘open for storage’, PERHAPS there is something I mystery don’t understand but: it ‘seems to me’ that as I understood it, “Yes, it could be used for ‘storage’)” BUT “Wouldn’t, as presented - couldn’t it/depending on the stuff stored in there when in its ‘stored away’/’pushed in’ position, tend to result in things either falling out/rolling out of the storage box either while in motion potentially even at rest depending on various factors such as ‘slope’ and so on? NOW - perhaps I’m missing something and perhaps there is some sort of ‘protrusion’ into that space when it is all ‘pushed in’ for some reason but assuming that I understand it correctly, might it not be USEFUL to consider adding some sort of ‘hinged door’ - hinged at the bottom - to enable one to cover up opening so that things wouldn’t/couldn’t fall/roll out? PERHAPS even such a door could be made of something like say Clear Lexan and that way, one would be able to SEE exactly what was inside there without having to even open the door/cover? Also, it just occurred to me but - and I cannot really imagine that you have not found some innovative way to use the space that the slide in/slide out bottom section as well, perhaps on the ‘under bed’ portion of the garage either in whole or in part but, assuming - just assuming - you haven’t, might not a similar idea use the lower section ALSO ‘for storage’ with some sort of pop up lid - solid in this case with ‘anti-slip strips’ instead of (obviously) something like clear Lexan? And, before I leave this ‘first idea’, the doors could be held firmly in place using - one of both YOUR and my favorite components - MAGNETS - to keep them closed and in place while in motion. Again, maybe I’ve missed something here because it’s ‘not like you’ to waste space in your builds and there may very well be good reasons for the way everything has been done insofar as it was presented in your video, but - just in case… Second: like your idea regarding the Hidden Shower Controls and ‘Shower Head’. Neat idea to hide it that way ‘in a recess’ with a ‘pulldown door’ like that. However, and perhaps ‘up close’, ‘this’ isn’t the problem BUT as it appeared in the video, as a result of the recess and the available lighting, that opening was kind of DARK and kind of ‘gloomy’, and it occurred to me that just maybe - the addition of something LIKE a short section of say LED strip lighting - hidden/recessed above the inside lip of the opening, shining downward, that would automatically come on when the door was opened, might be a Very Nice Touch. And - ‘Cheap Like Borscht’, as they say. It seems to me that something like that - and I would say in a Bright White/say roughly 6000 K Color Temperature - would look REALLY ‘COOL’ and at the same time be very functional.

Part 2 of 2: Third and finally - general thoughts regarding those ‘Overhead/Aircraft Style’ Storage Cabinets that you have been incorporating lately into your bills, AND IN PARTICULAR the larger ones - the largest I have seen to date - in your most recent video/build. This is a - to my tastes - an excellent idea in terms of ‘not wasting space’ and aesthetically and functionally as well, ‘from the outside’. Unless I’ve missed something, to date the only? method I have seen you use to help ‘keep stuff stored within’ cabinets from falling out when the cabinet is opened, has been a ‘zigzag use of bungee cords’ TO KEEP THINGS ‘PINNED’ to the door itself. It seems to me that while this might be the best solution in some cases - situations where whatever it is you are storing in there is say not too heavy and/or otherwise amenable to the use of such a mechanism, in other cases there might be better ways to accomplish what you seek to accomplish. I’ve already mentioned ‘weight’ as a factor/consideration and what if whatever it is you wanted to store didn’t ‘lend itself naturally’ to the ‘bungee cord retention system’? It would seem to me that potentially something like some sort of ‘elastic cargo netting’ either attached to the door side of the cabinet OR potentially attached to the non-movable portion of the storage cabinet might be a better idea, at least in some cases. It would seem to me that in many cases, it would be preferable to not have anything at all attached to the door itself, but - when you opened up the cabinet, you could just SEE what was stored therein. A contributing factor to the problem of how to use that storage space optimally is the fact that the space is very small in terms of volume at the bottom of the cabinet EXPONENTIALLY INCREASING as you move upwards towards the roof inside the cabinet. So the question is, or at least some of the questions are: how might you BEST be able to utilize that space ‘depending’ on what you wanted to store up there, best deal with questions like ‘weight’, not having to worry about ‘stuff falling out for rolling out’ when you open the door to the cabinets, and - PROVIDE MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY in terms of what you might want to store in these overhead cabinets, depending on/and variable by ‘cabinet to cabinet’, as you move around inside the vehicle. For example, it would seem to me that say - potentially large, bulky items such as blankets and comforters and things like that, MIGHT best benefit and facilitate maximum use of storage volume if they could be retained/held in by some kind of elastic netting or maybe even a bungee mechanism anchored to the non-openable portion of the cabinet. With such items, for example ‘Creative Folding’ of them - designed to ‘put’ the ‘majority volume’ of the item ‘upward’ towards the largest volume of the storage space, might be best. On the other hand, say smaller items such as say: folded shirts, towels, pants, etc. might better be stored ‘attached to’ the lid/openable door of the cabinet. Anyway, them’s my thoughts and ideas this early in the morning. I thought that perhaps you might find them useful. Need to now go and get another liter of coffee for myself because the first one hasn’t kicked in yet, or else I may have to resort to an ‘intravenous caffeine drip’ to try to ‘get myself going’.
