Hey man. Do you know of any DAC's that work well with the Elgato Wave 3 Mic? I use Sennheiser headphones and to hear the mic feedback without delay I need to use the line in from the back of the X3 to the headphone port on the mic but I hear minor static but it's not too irritating. I just wonder if there is a better system out there than what I do right now because the reason I got Sennheiser was to have a much better sound quality and something that actually feels comfy on my head as gaming headsets always cut corners somewhere. I just wish the Wave 3 had a built in amp up to my headphones as this would solve all my problems.

So my setup is using a USB microphone and I've just ordered a pair of Sennheiser 58X headphones. Would I be able to use the chat/game mixer? Or is it required to use a mic that can plug in to the GC7 via the front microphone jack? Badseed said that you'd "bypass" all of it with a USB mic so I'm wondering if I should forego a gaming Dac and just go with something like the Schiit stack.

The reason I chose this is for the optical out going to a pre amp and running my bass shaker (transducer) with an external amp. I have struggled trying to find a way to get this option to work with both speakers and or headphones. I believe I have spent way to much to have this feature but I couldn't find a another viable option. Thank you for the informative video.

Thank you for being honest with this review! I specifically got this for the optical in port, because I won't have an optical in on my next computer build, nor will I have a free PCIe slot for a sound card, so I actually needed a USB sound card/DAC that had optical in, and could also have the optical in port seen as a recording device in the Windows sound control panel. I wanted optical in because it is not susceptible to EMI as 3.5mm is (light is not affected by EMI, but anything dealing with electricity like 3.5mm is), and I wanted to hear my streaming PC's audio on my gaming headset without being fed back through the capture card's audio capture, and because I'm using voicemeeter to duplicate the audio from my headphones to the capture card with different EQs and stuff, the only way I can get the streaming PC audio to my headphones without being duplicated is if I enable the listen function in the Windows sound control panel, and select my headphones (realtek 2nd hd audio output) and NOT the voicemeeter aux input. I tested it with Aux input because it was seen as a recording device in the Windows sound control panel (while the GoXLR Mini I have DOES NOT show the inputs properly in the control panel), so I know it will work with optical input as well.

I’m considering buying, I’ve been using a set of razer headphones and would like to jump to a nicer set up. Im kind of set on getting some beyerdynamic dt 770 and have been in search of a solid way to power them. The idea having control over game chat and the volume seem awesome while adding the benefit of having some macros. Only concern is my mic is usb powered and I’m not too sure it that will work with the features of this

Literally just got the X3 today, i previously had the arctis pro wireless headset but decided I didn't want the whole gaming aesthetic. I decided to go with the HD58XX's but i there are two features i kind of just needed to have from the SteelSeries, the game chat mix, and a physical button to change between speakers and headphones, on the arctis pro as soon as you turn them off the audio automatically goes out the line out on the hub, so i knew i needed something like that. Tbh I'm actually pretty confused by all the software for the X3, there is a lot of stuff I just don't understand, or settings that don't seem to change anything...

I think you'll help me understand my predicament better. I just got gifted a mad nice AVR and B & W CM4s. I'm in the need for a separate headphone amp and a solid in-between buffer for my headphones and speaker system. This looks interesting and I've only started looking into separate DACs. My AVR is old enough I can't connect HDMI audio either.

I don't want to go full audiophile or RGB streamer mode, but would love to find some cheap kit that can do hardware level microphone adjustments for input. I've tried software based VST and the results can be great but the setup and input delays are rather cumbersome for just casual gaming with friends using push to talk. Like, some cheap, average quality module that can do basic gain/gate/compression and equalizer without any software or drivers would be amazing to clean up mic quality. Does such a thing even exist?

Many non-gaming dac/amps do not support the built in microphone. You have check whichever product you're looking in to. If you can't find anything in the description or questions/answers section assume there's no built in microphone support. Gaming dacs like most of the Sound blaster series do support mics.

I frequently entirely lose audio on the "headset" audio device, so the mix between game and voice audio is useless. Really frustrating and haven't found a consistent way to fix. Reboot pc, reboot app, revert to factory default, update drivers, update windows, power cycle the GC7, etc. So annoying

@eeflos 3 жыл бұрын
I bought this shortly after it came out, replacing my Soundblaster G6 for PC gaming. Honestly, the biggest appeal for me was the dedicated chat mix dial, as the G6 did not have anything like that, and I had gotten used to it on my Razer Kraken TE, followed by my Steelseries Arctis 5 headphones with the chat mix. I mostly game with friends, chatting via Discord, so that ability to adjust the chat/game mix easily was important to me. I'm currently using Sennheiser Game Ones, and the sound is really good. My only complaint is that I have to have a light on to read the labels on the unit, as they are not back-lit unless you are using them. (For the center dial adjustments.) The mic mute is also dark, unless muted, and can be tricky to find in the dark. I am also not using the SXFI features.

im thinking of buying these as well for the exact reasons you stated! would you say this is a great dac/amp if being used primarily for the game/chat mix? i was also thinking of going for the sound blaster x3 for the lower price and heard they sounded great paired with the pc37x, but wasn't sure if it had the same game/chat mix feature on it

@eeflos
@eeflos 3 жыл бұрын
@@tonyramirez1112 I had the G6 set to neutral, basically. I played with the preset sound settings and listened to the differences. Toggled between game and music presets. I play mostly Diablo 3, racing games, and a few others, but no shooters that rely on directional sound cues. Played through some Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and the sound staging was fantastic! I only ever needed low gain, and I never got past 50% volume. I have put the G6 in my laptop bag to have the audio improvement while on the go. It's an awesome unit, it just totally lacks any chat mix.

I kind of wonder how something like this would stack up against a the FiiO btr3k. The FiiO obviously has low power output. But, it turns your headphones into bluetooth. It does do mic in through the device and if you plug in with 4 pole. Plus, you have a built in EQ that you can program via the Android app. I mean it seems to have most everything this has but in a small pocket size device that turns all headphones into bluetooth headphones. For 70 dollars.

I was all in for this one, bought it after the first couple of reviews published. Happy with it so far and it's a solid recommend. In terms of use case, my requirements were: - switchable between 3+ inputs with headphone chat (home PC, work laptop and console) - optical and line in/out (optical out for a 'proper' dac when quality matters) - usb - tactical controls - any game eq stuff a bonus The catalyst was that the various mix amps already on the market either didn't care about multiple inputs or had some other type of limitation, and the cheaper professional mixers tend to go with a separate channel for mic. Lucky last, I couldn't seem to google exactly what I wanted, nor could anyone I spoke to think of a device that came close. So when the GC7 came out it was meant to be. If the above gets your interest just a quick word there is only one USB input. I picked up a USB switch box to get around the issue, which probably opens up the whole playing field if I thought of doing that as a first step. But for the price point I suspect I still would have bought the GC7.

Isn’t optical out a digital signal? Thus it becomes just a passthrough device rather than a dac
@bjd3707
@bjd3707 2 жыл бұрын
@@georgebimpas3726 surprisingly that's just an option. You can also eq the sound further (like a second round of processing) and send that to the dac as well. What has been a bit fiddly is switching between different settings, like for gaming and then audio editing. You can map the buttons but you don't really know what it's doing without opening up the desktop application. Still a recommended buy, especially for the price.

@bjd3707
@bjd3707 4 ай бұрын
@@worms141414 Absolutely. You can look at the device and almost decide for yourself before you buy it - the big dial on the right is the voice / game balance and the one on the left is the master volume. Just a quick reminder I wrote this two years ago and it appears to have not dropped in the price - it might pay to see what other units have been released. I happy and it still works, but two years is two years.

So I'm seriously considering this unit. I am on a mixamp pro and I really enjoy being able to mix my game and voice chats. I don't stream but when playing certain FPS games, if the team is dead and chatting a lot I can easily just lower their volume while maintaining my game volume without having to alt tab out. I also plan to run my mic through with an XLR to 3.5mm converter as right now it's going through USB and bypassing my mixamp. The Mixamp only has mic in for monitoring and relies on you using the Astro headset mic which I don't. One question I had was in terms of power and if this unit could drive a set of Sennheiser HD 6XX? Right now I'm on a gaming heat set but I want a bit more.

I bought this unit on day one after purchasing the g6, I prefer this unit to the g6 and the astro mixamp I have. I am a console/pc gamer and also create content on youtube. It is easier for me to use this for my videos however I use a usb mic for recording. I also don't have room for a proper mixer as they are to large for my setup.

Hey, I wanna give a shoutout to your channel! Been following and watching your videos for some time already. Got some pretty great advice/perspectives from time to time which also aided in some of my audio purchasing decisions. Personally, I come from the audiophile + gaming community. I do content-related work as well (some times professionally, mostly just for personal passion). I recently did get the AE-9. I know I know. It's one crazy expensive hardware. I got it mainly because of 2 reasons. One, I'm an enthusiast. Two, I've been a customer of Creative since before sound cards was even a thing (back in the late 90s and early 2000s). And yes, Creative was started by a Singaporean, so some local pride there. But nope, I didn't actually need the AE-9. I could've gone with the AE-7 too. But AE-9 is just a nice bragging right...lol. It's kinda like the RTX3090 of GPUs. But after realizing that the AE-9 doesn't support SXFI, plus I am thinking about going back into game streaming again later this year, I am considering the GC7. Yes, as someone that loves open-world action RPG games, the SXFI (for the wider sound stage) is a major factor for me. I am considering the GSX 1200 Pro vs the GC7. Who knows, maybe I might end up getting both. Just to try, compare and keep them in my collection. P.S. I do have the X3 on my desk currently too.

Think I’m going to get the Fosi Audio K5 Pro on a hunch based kn the video. Never really been into sound cards or such but since I’m building new PC i figured I’d go for it. Dip into the boosted sound quality thing. Headphones are Sennheiser GSP 600. I need closes back because it will be in noisy room. Pretty interesting to see how this works. Glad I saw the video. The creative sound thing seemed very… gimmicky. Thanks for great video

AYE, what software you all use for an EQ for a dac/amp stack?
@fuxaplexlegends9028
@fuxaplexlegends9028 3 жыл бұрын
Equalizer APO is pretty much the standard. For Windows Anyhow. Not Sure with Mac. Linux has Pulseeffect....but, linux where as the audio is fine the Software EQ adds a negative quality I do not like. But, it exists and it isn't bad. Equalizer APO is pretty clean and it has limitless functionality that I doubt any of Soundblasters software could match. You can do infinite levels of EQ and then you can stack different EQs on top of one another. For Free Software it is pretty OP.

I know it's not an exact comparison but how do these USB devices like the GC7 compare to PCI-E devices like the Creative AE-5 or AE-7? I recently plunked down $220 on an AE-7 and was relatively impressed with it over my previous onboard audio when driving my DT770 80ohm. I think it compares well to the GC7 because it has the external knobs and connections but it's not constrained by the USB power limits either. But no one talks about sound cards *at all* anymore it seems.
@badseedtech
@badseedtech 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly stopped using internal cards because there’s rarely room in a build for one with gpu sizes and card based nvme drives, you run the risk of slowing your primary pcie l e if not installed properly, and I’ve not heard on in a while that didn’t have a very noisy mic input. They’re just slowly disappearing from pc culture.
@drewhinners8793
@drewhinners8793 3 жыл бұрын
@@badseedtech that's all fair and true. I had to remove a fan from my case to be able to use the proper PCI-E slot at the bottom of my board so my GPU wouldn't drop to 8x. I get that. But most people aren't sticking M.2s in to full length PCI-E slots and most people probably just have those spare 4x PCIE channels kicking around doing nothing. Outside of someone needing a RAID card or extra NIC(which most gamers don't), I think the best candidate to fill that space is an audio card. Idk what my point is, I just think people unfairly write off sound cards immediately without at least considering them in the first place. The AE-5/AE-7 hit quite a few marks you talked about without many of the negatives. Either way, love the videos, thanks for the response!

@@badseedtech also, I've recently had nothing but compliments about my microphone since upgrading to the AE-7 + modmic. Way smoother and clearer than my previous AT2020 + Focusrite Scarlett Solo. When I make test recordings, the difference is immediately noticable. But maybe I'm just not setting up the AT 2020 properly. Dunno.

Internal soundcards, including PCIE ones, are subject to the internal EMI. External are not. I do rock a Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium. Nobody is going to convince me any other game-oriented card comes close to it. CMSS-3D is the best virtual surround for games outside of SXFI Battle mode.

@NinjaQuick
@NinjaQuick 3 жыл бұрын
I actually had a use case. I wanted to reduce my output devices to 2, USB for the RIG 800, and USB for the GC7. I need optical out for the RIG 800 (call mix) I need optical in for my workstation/consoles/etc (i have a 5x1 HDMI switch with audio extractor over Optical) I need a separate speaker out for my, well, speakers I need TRRS for the V-Moda BoomPro which I use to turn all my headphones into headsets. None of the "high fidelity" ones seem to have TRRS, or if they do they aren't telling me. The GC7 is almost a perfect product. IT has all those things, the SXFI is really neat, in game mode. The "Virtual 7.1 speakers" mode is, as the review indicates, a simulated 300 dollar hometheater-in-a-box. Worthless. It fails to replace CMSS-3D+EAX5.0. I doubt anything will replace that. That being said, I think only Valve's Steam Audio solution is better at "spatial sound", even though SXFI is not a spatial sound solution. If it were I think we'd be on to something magical.

I just put my order in and can’t wait! I’ve been using an Astro mixamp pro tr? On my PC for a few months and as far as build quality and ease of use goes that thing is top tier but after digging a Sound Blaster G3 out of a drawer MAN THAT ASTRO MIXAMP SOUNDS LIKE TRASH 😵‍💫 All I want from the GC7 is for it to have the spectrum of sound that the Astro Mixamp is missing while still giving me quick physical controls to swap profiles and mixing chat volume. I like things in general that the GC7 seems to be, that jack of all trades ace of none kinda deal. Digging around there are better dedicated mixers and dedicated dacs but I’d rather have one device that does both well instead of one that’s better at one thing but lacks the features of the other.
