Denise, one of the reasons I love you is because you are an artist of all the mediums. I am too. I go through my fazes with each medium and many at same time. I am currently in an acrylic class while at same time teaching myself oil painting, while at same time doing watercolor fun and mixed media projects. I taught photography at the college level for 18 years….and I’m from the south! However every art event I attend I’m asked so…what is your medium? What type of artist are you? And it always makes me feel less than and not respected because I’m not just a one type artist. You make me feel so much better knowing that it’s ok to be like us! Thank you for all you do and all you share with us. I enrolled in your Skillshare classes too, because I feel like I’m home when in your classes. You rock..”however my credit card limit had to be increased watching you…hahahaha”

It was so refreshing to hear this comment I couldn’t agree with you more I’m exactly the same. Everyone always asked me what I use as though it could only be one thing and when I tell them I like all mediums the looks I get, are more like Oohh I get it your not a REAL ‘Artist’ you just do it for a hobby. In a way ,’d love it if I just had one medium it would be so much cheaper. However being an art supply addict doesn’t help either. So nice to be here with people that get it and are also positive and uplifting you’re not alone. Merry Christmas and happy holidays or whatever you celebrate. Also, Denise, just thinking patron possibly?

@@jessbutterfly1934 I'm thinking Mixed-Media Artist is the best tag for the things we make - so that is what I say instead of a particular medium now... I've considered Patreon... I've been transitioning my business over more and more to art from photography the past couple of years... so I've been a bit over-committed. What kinds of things would interest you on an art Patreon channel?

Oh my! I'm just like you in that I flit from medium to medium and project to project. I have don't miniature dollhouses, crochet, knitting, quilting, embroidery , scrapbooking, cardmaking, ceramics, jewelry making and watercolor! Inside water color I've tried different styles and techniques and your style lets me be free! Free from trying to be perfect; free from caring too much because I can always cut it up. I love all your videos and even though I can't afford to by all the supplies you show us, I look at them and sometimes I can substitute something I have to create something similar. So Thank you Denise! I'm so enjoying painting right now and I feel like even though I may flit to something else in the future, I sure am loving what I'm doing right now. Actually I'm combining painting and cardmaking!

I like using Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive Spray on the back of the stencils. Press firmly on paper, then spread thin coats. If you use too much paste and press straight down (rather than holding the palette knife at an angle to the paper) it will force the paste under the stencil. Enjoy your videos Denise!😊

Hi Denise. That's another beautiful project. I tried it as I'm doing book marks for an art fair, and it was a lovely addition. I apply the gel medium using a plastic spatula from the hardware store. It comes out perfect every time. I also make my own medium using mica powder mixed with Golden gel medium. I always enjoy your videos

Ooooo…shopping! The colors you chose are beautiful. I have several jars of paste and bought some of the stencil butter over the summer but I do struggle with seepage. I bought some spreaders at the hardware store, which helps, however, Tim Holtz uses a mini squeegee that he got on Amazon that does a better job because of the flexible rubber edge. Haven’t bought one yet. Thanks for sharing your art haul and your talent.

Hey Denise! I'm resisting the purchasing bait, just for today...as I'm saving for all the upcoming art Black Friday deals!! But, I do have many stencil pastes and wanted to share a lil insight to help your stencil butters last a much longer time. Once you open each of them, immediately cover them with Press N Seal. I have a 16oz of the white stencil butter so I can mix my own colors with acrylic, inks or watercolor, and not be so invested in EVERY color. I've had the 16oz jar for 2yrs, and it's still soft and moist. Enjoy all those pastes! Also Robin McClendon has a KZbin channel for all things gelli plate printing, fearless like you!

So pretty! I love the stencil work at the end. I think that gray color would have gone well over these brights too - dramatic! May have to try & create that myself! When you're unboxing and talking about discovering all the art supplies, and trying different things, going from oils to acrylics to inks to watercolors like a butterfly -- this is me! My best friend and I sit down with art supplies nearly every Saturday night after dinner and just play. No masterpieces, although we have exchanged art we've created or made something and passed it on to someone else - but we share supplies (and maybe a bottle of wine) and just have fun.

I love that you own your curiosity about, and enjoyment of, different media. I’m the same way, and it can be a source of self-doubt if I start thinking too much about the fact that I’m not mastering any particular medium. But I love art supplies and figure that only by trying a lot of things will I find out what I like best (at least at that moment in time!). I’m also an advanced amateur photographer so your comments about different cameras and lenses hit home (I’m into infrared photography and the newly manufactured Lomograohy lenses)! I recently saw a video by Papertude on Kissho Saibiboku paints, which are like the Gansai paints but made with Sumi ink sticks, so they have muted color qualities not unlike the graphite paints. They don’t seem to be available in the US, sadly, but it may be worth keeping an eye out for them! Also, I am a big fan of Robyn’s art - you should totally check out her YT channel!

I did a watercolor (tube) experiment on canvas just yesterday. I use Blick's 18x 24 pre gesso canvas pad and sealed again with Daniel Smith watercolor ground. I didn't use water at this time to see how it would spread, yet. It didn't go through. Since the stencil paste is soft just like soft modeling paste the chances of it going under is very high unless the adhesive spray is used.

I was excited to see you experiment with the stencil butter. Is it possible to apply it with a sponge, or is it too thick? What would be the benefit of the stencil butter vs. acrylic paint?
@2lilowlsstudio
@2lilowlsstudio 11 ай бұрын
I'm definitely going to be using it with a sponge next time... is a nice thickness for that. Seems like regular body acrylic paint... so maybe that is what it is?

I watch your videos out of order, so you may answer this in a later video. Have you tried the watercolor on canvas book techniques in one of your mixed media journals? Random commented, it took me forever to figure out that was a cow on the cover😂. It wasn't until you started the flip through that I finally saw the cow.

Thank you for the Wabi-Sabi recommendation. I'd never heard of this philosophy. My knowledge of Japanese culture is minimal at best. This book has sparked my curiosity to learn more about wabi-sabi and the Japanese tea ceremony. It's fascinating to hear it discussed in religious terms. I don't think my way of preparing tea will hold up. 😊

Well my Christmas list just got longer! Thanks for showing all your new goodies. I use stencil butter a lot. I use a lot of tape to make sure stencil is not going to move. I’ve never used Pixie Spray to adhere the stencil on watercolor but card makers use it over inked backgrounds so it’s probably ok.

Hi, Denise, lovely pieces today ❤️ i've had the Robyn Mcclendon book on pre-order since April, and its still not released here yet in the UK 😢 29th November I think 🤞With the stencils, try not to work the paste too much, don't go back and forth. Look at the design and choose one direction to spread it. The stencil butter does seem quite thin so that won't help. Also make sure you've got you stencil the right way up. There is a front and a back to them, which helps stop the pastes from going underneath. I hope this helps 🤗 thanks again, and i hope you have a lovely weekend, take care, Jane x

Those are beautiful, Denise. As always, you are a treat to watch and listen to. I'm in FL enjoying an overcast 83 day, looking forward to some cooler temps (we get to open the windows, yay), and picking my holiday art supplies. And speaking of holidays... I'd like to share a beautiful, and heartfelt Christmas song with you, written my husband. He's an award-winning songwriter. But I won't post a link without having your permission as this is your channel, and that would be rude-and very tacky, so I didn't even mention his name. (It's not to sell, just to watch his video.) Not to put you on the spot, as this is public, if you'd rather not, then just ignore this part of my comment and I won't be offended. :)

Denise, I would love to see you publish, a book that features your artwork, not a how to book just a book that’s full of page after page of different things you’ve created and photos you’ve taken throughout the years. I find it really hard to find Art books that are on just a pacific artist, or a few different artists that feature their artworks without heaps of words.
