I'll add to the "you don't want to damage your ears" remark with my experiences. In 1999 I had a small container explode 18-12" from my left ear, could only hear hi pitched static while other sounds sounded as if they where far away and underwater. Years later I got an ear infection that made me effectively deaf in my right. While I was lucky and both time my hearing returned I'm left with a permanent low hiss. Its easily ignored with other sounds, but I need white noise to sleep or the hiss is loud enough to disturb me.

The X3 is a no-brainer purchase when you're looking for better sound, it's the best little audio gadget I've had in years, it has so many settings and features to play with plus it has Creative's new Super X-FI technology! And with "SXFI Gen2" (which comes as a free X3 firmware update for all owners) it has become even better and Creative is already working on "SXFI Gen3"! Thumbs up!

Super X-Fi is building off CMSS 3-D. SUper X-Fi's is more or less the same as X-Fi's old Entertainment Mode, which is one of the better virtual surround sound convolutions out there, but they've added a few more tweaks, such as customization (an old technology they acquired from Sensaura, a British technology firm in the early 2000's).

a bit weird to buy this for headphone use only since the main benefit of this is as an external 5.1/7.1 dac which are 100 times rarer than headphone dacs. And since you didn't focus on that in the video I didn't get an answer to the question 'Can I get sound in all my speakers if I play audio from my browser (like from youtube) which only outputs stereo ?'

Back around 2003 I had an Audigy 2 Sound Blaster card with decent Creative speakers. Honestly the software was a little bit buggy but the sound it put out was amazing and it used to blow my friends away as nobody really used a PC as a sound system back then. I haven't used a dedicated sound card for years now but if you go down that route the results are awesome

On a side note - If youre serious about home audio and already have compatible speakers $100-120USD would probably buy you a pretty good secondhand AV receiver. Yes they are 10x the size of the X3 but the added bonus is that you can hook a lot more stuff up, can stream music via wifi/bluetooth, has FM/AM and net radio and the quality of the sound will leave the X3 in the dirt providing you got decent speakers. Obviously you wont get the fancy 3D audio gaming related features that Creative has to offer on their products but you will get a super high quality sound system that rivals that of cinemas if set up correctly with good speakers to match.... Even if you dont and you just hook it up with expensive bookshelf speakers from an old hifi unit you found in the shed. It should still sound pretty good. Apart from my subwoofer. my entire setup i bought pre-owned and that saved me a tonne of money.
@JoeGP

do those $120 used AV receivers have USB digital audio input ? because of not, you are still running it off of crappy onboard audio and I don't see how that can sound better than the X3, also the X3 can still be hooked up to a receiver.

CMSS3D isn't coming back. That tech took hundreds of audio channels and calculated positional audio from them. Ever since Microsoft killed hardware accelerated audio with Vista, we now only have 7 channels or so max.
@xXYannuschXx
@xXYannuschXx 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, CMSS3D on the Titanium HD supported this via OpenAL, even on Vista and higher. Sadly game devs didnt care (because it didnt work on consoles and the release of the Xbox360 and PS3 MASSIVELY shifted development from PC to consoles (which was further amplified by Microsoft pushing console gaming, because "PCs arent for gaming")) and Creative ended up only doing ONE major update of OpenAL to version 1.1 and then making it EOL. You can however still use OpenAL Soft (an open source continuation of OpenAL) to get HRTF to work in games using OpenAL, sadly this doesnt support EAX function as good as the Creative version, let alone the ones that had hardware accelerated EAX.

@@allansh828 You are being ripped off if you are paying $120 for RCA cable. Studios make up their own cables to measure and the cabling they use will typically cost less than $3.00 a metre. That's what the music you are listening to is recorded through. You've been taken in by the snake oil salesmen if you think $120 phono cables are going to give you a superior listening experience. There's only so much you can do with copper and shielding just has to be sufficient. Other specialist audio gear and hifi though does cost a lot of money. The Gen 2 which the XFi has is better. However, one thing not mentioned in the review is the SXFI is based on photos of your head. I have tried mine and my wife's profile in RDR2 and Forza Horizon 4. I really like/love my profile in RDR2 but my wife's sound off with the "wrong" amount of reverb. Is the SXFI magical, not really but I really enjoy it over the SBX processing. The main thing is the rear channels sound like they are actually behind me and not at an ~160 degree angle right next to my head. The SXFI is also very nice for any video content even 2.0 sourced content. For music it is hit or miss. The older the recording the more I tend to like it.

This is much newer than the G6. It has game chat mixing, proper side-tone without delay, a better design. It has all the same gaming features. SXFI is personalized from ear scans and face scans so you may like it after it's been personalized. SXFI itself is not the surround. You have basic virtual 7.1 surround as usual, and then you can combine it with SXFI if you like it better. It's a G6 and then some, with the newest Creative Sound Blaster Command software that the G6 doesn't even support.

For music clarity get the g6, better quality dac and amp also. For gaming meh, any of the 2 will do.

I think your method for trying to present the Super-xFi feature is flawed in some way because it is 100% downscaled to mono in this video. If Super-xFi does anything and it is noticeable on headphones, do a headphone demo for all 3 of the modes with a setup similar to Z Reviews.

Some Linux distos can run Windows installers, or maybe Wine can do it. I'm not an expert, but some one on the various forums might be able to help.

Linux in my experience has never supported audio correctly, even back in the early 2000s. And even with current builds of live distros, it just doesn't seem to work beyond mono.

@@ZeroHourProductions407 Yet here I am running Manjaro Mate with STEREO over my JLab rewind Bluetooth headset using a generic $5 USB 2.0 Bluetooth 4.2 adapter, and I get STEREO out on all my machines with with onboard/bluetooth/HDMI as well. So please stop spreading falsehoods as Linux very well supports AC97, Realtek HD Audio, and Bluetooth audio with the correct firmware/software installed on your system. I've even gotten my ASUS Xonar DG PCI soundcard to work for basic STEREO sound output, minus the Windows only software it needs to fully drive the card's onboard headphone/speaker AMP.

@@CommodoreFan64 again, my experience does not mirror this. Then again, my experience with realtek for audio is basically a nightmare, second only to VIA chipsets of the past for how much they *don't* want to support or work with anything.

Well you only have two ears so you only need stereo output, in theory, it's up to the actual applications etc to implement proper 3D sound (I think both Nvidia and AMD have path traced audio solutions available but idk if they've made it into any games yet)
