I made something similar, used your pan lid idea for a door, but I managed to put a baffle plate in it as well. Greatly enhances the efficiency and reduces the smoke

You are amazing, I'm so happy that you did it and added details to make the product better. One thing to note is that during the process of burning the stove door with the pot lid is very hot, you must absolutely avoid water.

Seasoned wood (dried) Complete combustion is helped by a good air supply under a grate. Strong draught from a tall flue of sufficient diameter. Combustion chamber size, shape, orientation, design. A baffle and secondary burn chamber.
