Lol. There is a public figure in New Zealand called Gareth who has suggested we need fewer cats as they kill native birds. That cat is named after him.

@@DrNic I work in an international school in Scotland and teach higher level mathematics from the International Baccalaureate. The course is new to the program and includes a lot of stats which I have taught before, so your videos are also really helpful for me!

@Jennifer Purpura That is interesting. Many countries are increasing the statistics/data science component of their maths curriculum, which I totally approve of! Do let me know if you find a topic you would like a video about. Can't guarantee it, but it's good to get suggestions. You might consider becoming a channel member for a month or two to help support my efforts. kzbin.info/door/G32MfGLit1pcqCRXyy9cAgjoin

Hello miss, you have many stats videos. Data science is a booming area in Tech comanies. Could you just group the videos and name the playlist something like 'Complete Stats for Data Science'. For syllabus of stats in data science, you can refer online. Their are many websites or even youtube videos for it. This will also help you rank your videos on youtube. You are really good at teaching. simple examples makes it very easy to digest. Thanks and good luck

I am skeptical about the cat catching mice is independent of each other. As it catches more, the mice population gets low, the probability is decreasing each time.

Good thinking - however at the rate of one a week, I don't think Gareth is going to get on top of it.

Please take this as constructive criticism, but I hate when maths concepts are explained like this. You explain how to USE the model but not HOW it works, so one must memorise pieces of information without really grasping the fundamental concept. And one will be forever wondering whether they are applying this model to the correct cases or not. In my opinion, the proper way to teach such a topic is by starting with a concrete problem we need to solve, e.g.: model the rate at which people arrive in a queue. Realise these are independent events because the arrival of one customer is not influenced by the arrival of other costumer. Then, from this concrete example, explain how to build a model like Poisson. That means explain exactly how to define lambda, how to calculate probabilities for any N, etc. Without using pre-made tools like excel, otherwise I will never understand what's going on when I ask excel to calculate this for me. This is the only way of teaching that will teach you when it's proper to use Poisson model, because you are actually understanding the model itself and not just applying it blindly.

Thank you for taking the time. I am cognisant of all you say and agree that for many people your approach is helpful. However, I have found that some people learn by applying - and I am certainly one of those. A highly-esteemed statistics educator once said "Mathematical understanding is not the only understanding." The other thing is that this is a KZbin video, not an entire course in statistics or probability. For people who are struggling, this can be helpful. Feel free to make videos of the type you describe.
