❣DIY Boot Fairy House Lamp Using a Coke Plastic Bottle❣

In this tutorial I show you how I made a fairy boot house lamp using nothing but a coca cola plastic bottle, tin foil, paint, hot glue, copper wire and paper clay. This is a great way to teach children about recycling and also stimulate their creativity and imagination.
I started by cutting the coke bottle in two pieces. I glued the pieces and used the upper part of the bottle to make the front of the boot and the bottom part to make the rest of it. As usual I add volume and elements to the house using tin foil. I then cover the foil with paper clay. I draw on the wet clay where the windows will be. Keep in mind that this will be a lamp so it would be nice to have lots of windows all around. You can work in one layer or, if you are a beginner you should work in two layers, one for covering the surface and the second one for the details like wood texture, bark, mushroom chimneys and stones. After the paper clay is dry you can easily add more details using tin foil and hot glue. For example I added a roof using some copper wire and tin foil to make the frame. I worked in two layers for the roof, one for the main structure and the second one for making and texturing the tiles. Let everything dry. For painting I used watercolors and acrylic paint. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish. I placed some battery LED lights under the house. I recommend you use soft lights that will gently illuminate your windows so it looks like a real house. DON'T USE HOT LIGHTS!

Frequently Asked Questions: 1. What clay do you use? I use a paper clay. I either buy it or make my own depending on what I want to create 2. The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need 3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay? Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects. 4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks? You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question 5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations? I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay 6. What brand of paper clay do you use? I use "Das modelling material" - amzn.to/2r5FEHY 7. I use homemade paper clay, but lately I have used Das air dry clay, and it cracks no matter how thin I roll it out. I can't figure out what to do to eliminate cracking in it. Any suggestions?

I would love to be able to make one of these houses using my one hand that works...but it seems very difficult or impossible to be able to make one with just the right hand. I am very crafty, I know I could do it if both of my hands would still working but I have lost all the movements on the left side of my body due to brain cancer... I still paint and draw a lot but it is very frustrating to not be able to do what you are used to do your entire life... every time I watch one of your videos, I imagine me doing it, gluing it, painting it... it is suck a pleasure to watch your magic happening! It is like an childish anxiety before Christmas Day morning for me, waiting to see the next step!!!! Your work is mesmerizing and beautiful!!!!
