In this video I show you how to do a water change in a betta jar. Its a simple concept but a lot of you have asked to see my personal method so here it is. It is very important to change the water in the jar as often as you can. Clean water = healthy and happy fish.

*BEFORE YOU COMMENT THAT THESE JARS ARE TOO SMALL...* 0:01 These jars are temporary. She is in the process of selling these fish, and she completely understands that jars likes these should NEVER be permanent homes. But they are being quarantined and sold. Please read the beginning! For a PERMANENT home, bettas need at least 2.5 gallons, and the temperature of the water should be between 78-82 Fahrenheit. Get a heater if needed. Creative Pet Keeping has lots of videos on the right habitat for a betta. Now, instead of saying that these jars are too small, *pay attention to the video instead of being ignorant, and watch different videos if you’re gonna get butthurt about it.*

its funny how in asian keep betta fish in jars in long term. i bought many by accident and they are house in small jars, its only temporary until i get bigger aquarium for them, i don't need heater since i live in the tropics where bettas originate from and saving up to get them filters, for now i keep a drum full of water that has been left overnight treated with anti chlorine. i do daily water changes in a half gallon jars.

Your jars look simple, clean, and beautiful :) One thing though, would it be better to have some gravel or little rocks on the bottom so that there's more surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow? Or is that not necessary with something like this.
@RyoWatanabee
@RyoWatanabee 6 жыл бұрын
Fish For Thought I don't think it's necessary because the fish poop will collect between the rocks/pebbles making it harder to clean.

The aquarium tank (2 gal) I picked out has a bubbler in the center. It kind of goes into a plastic tube with a plastic grate at the top. Should I remove it or do bettas like some water agitation? He definitely noticed when I turned it off. Can't tell if my fish loves that their gone or hates it. Also, I got the Indian almond leaves and they're not turning the water yellow. Are they still releasing tannins? (I put half a leaf in).

Its water from her tap and as she shows in the video she treated it with Prime (which is a dechlorinator). All fish need dechlorinated water unless of course you have the luxury of having well or spring water (which come with their own set of issues and problems)

I am trying to figure out how to take him with me. Any suggestions? I like those bigger containers you have. Are they plastic? I was going to use a giant mason jar and put holes in the top but the mouth of them isn't very wide and they are sort of tall. Yours look wider which would be nice.

Hi, I know it’s a little late to comment. But is it good to keep changing 100% of the water once every couple days? I read that it might be stressful for the fishes
@jordyndavis7651
@jordyndavis7651 4 жыл бұрын
Generally no. The difference is these fish aren’t permanently in here, and since they don’t have “cycled” tanks it gets tricky deciding how much you should or shouldn’t change, so it will depend on what you feel your fish to handle. Once you have a CYCLED tank don’t fully change the water. That will 100% stress your fish.

Melanie Gaming not necessarily but they do have them in the wild and it changes the color of the water a bit, which is more natural to have than clear water. It is also reputed to have health benefits. They are 9 bucks on amazon for a pack of ten. You would put a new one in every water change

Do Bettas need good bacteria as do other fish, like if you had a sponge filter? Is that why there are plants and moss? I find it confusing because some people say they need that but then yours are in jars. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
@jamiem1705
@jamiem1705 6 жыл бұрын
Chlexie L. Yes they do. All fish produce waste which has ammonia and is very bad for them. They are in jars because she is a breeder and they will soon be going to (ideally) much larger, filtered, heated, and cycled home. In a cycled tank you would only need to do water changes once a week. She has to do it every day because they live in small jars and to keep down the ammonia levels

Wow that is a lot of hard work lol I haven't changed my mind Thanks for showing us this I am in the process of breeding Betta's I like to call then Siamese Fighting Fish. To all the people who think they understand about Fighting fish. I do not believe thay should live in a tiny glass container like a wine glass or even a tiny fish bowl. You have to understand that this woman is a breeder they are not in there for the rest of their lives. You can not put Siamese fish together they would kill each other. If you keep them in a big tank they grow very slowly so a breeder will jar them to help them grow their fins and be conditioned for sale. The selling of Siamese fish is a completely different situation from buying one as a pet. I also beleive that 18L = 5G is plenty room for a single Fighting fish .

They could end up killing each other besides which that is way too small. One betta needs a minimum of 2.5 gallons. I suggest you check out lifewithpets. They have a series on setting up a betta tank. For a sorority, 5 is a good number of fish. Minimum ten gallon but bigger is always better. The tank should be cycled, have a heater and thermometer, and a filter as well as plenty of decorations so the bettas can hide if they are being bullied. Please do your research before buying any pet, no matter how small.

larry miller Aye, small containers should only ever be used when selling them, these jars are a decent size and are adequate until they are sold. Even super professional Betta breeders keep them in small containers as they just don't have the space. I've seen a few videos of Bettas from Petco and Walmart (i live in the UK) and it's just atrocious and it is very not ok even for a very short temporary stay. I'm not an expert in fact I'm getting my first Betta in a month or so after I get my tank cycled and everything. I have bought a 5 gallon tank, heater, filter etc. I'm also going to stock it with live plants too

Please see the video all the way, she knows and she said these are temporary homes untill they get sold to their permanent homes. This is a normal thing to do from breeders ☺️
