These wide open Belmont Stakes are fantastic. They are great. EXAGGERATED ( yes I know EXAGGERATOR) Is now 2-8 on fast tracks. Clearly he needs mother nature to enhance his performance. He is a different animal with not only moisture in the track but to me it is clear he needs a wicked pace up front. They went 48+ the half, 1:13+ for 6f today
@bullwinkle19898 жыл бұрын
I have walked the Track at Belmont and it is very slippery. The Horses are literally in the Air when they are galloping. Leland Stanford had Edweird Muybridge photograph Horses at the Gallop and they are off the ground and truly in the Air. That Track is one of the worst in the US. Very dangerous. I am glad nobody died.

I've been following the horse shaman ghost since before the marine stakes last year. He won the queens plate. I bet him yesterday and he won. I bring this up because Rosario was on him. He saved ground inside. Tried to do the same thing on Malibu but the key difference was shaman ghost had room to run.

I always joke with my husband, every time we watch jumping or races, that a grey will always win. They don't, normally. Well, didn't the best 3 greys get first, second, third!?!?! I didn't realize there were four greys in the race, I thought there was only one, Destin. My hubby and I were just joking around as we watched post parade, and OH MY GOD..THERE'S 4 GREYS!!!! I was just joking, again, with my hubby, and I said there's going to be 3 greys at the finish. I was just spoofing and speculating, watching Post Parade. Can you IMAGINE how KNOCKED OFF MY SOCKS I was to see three greys cross the finish line within HAIRS of each other!?!? I think if Lani had another 1/4 mile, he would have won the race. He was just gearing up and coming on. Lani is a horse to look forward to. He's a distance runner. Did you notice in the warm up he had no pony beside him, he was a loner. He was the first horse in the gates, and he was so quiet. I KNEW he was a contender.
@montanamountaingarden4766 жыл бұрын
Brenda Dale He didn't have a pony beside him and went into the gates first because he doesn't like other horses. It was the same way with him in both the Derby and Preakness. Its just so he wouldn't attack any horses.

Is it just me, or did Governor Malibu get screwed? I feel like the poor guy got cut off AND shoved when he tried to make a move. Well, anyway, congratulations Creator! And good try,, Destin!
@johnkaufmann88758 жыл бұрын
No. U are right. The rail tough place to be? That was a real nice race by The Governor. I see him making noise at Saratoga. Problem with that horse? U cannot whip him right handed. The rail was kind of shut off but not intentional. They tried the same tactics as The Peter Pan but this time the rail didn't open up.
@gunloc268 жыл бұрын
Agreed...Rosario probably smacked the shit out of ol' Paco after they returned to the jock's room...GM would have at least been neck & neck with the top two finishers (I had Destin) if not for Lopez blatanantly gearing his horse towards the rail...makes me believe Winstar planned such...cutting off horses coming up the rail that is. I actually believe the move was to impede Exaggerator (because of Kent's positioning & move in the Preakness), not GM. Dirty, dirty!
@martin-qm5ho8 жыл бұрын
Governor Malibu came off rail in Peter Pan and closing fast down the 3 path....the rail is a tricky place...most jockeys take it out towards 3 or 4 path when they close on wire knowing u can get trapped. Better luck next time for Gov Malibu!
@johnkaufmann88758 жыл бұрын
+Gunloc26 Have to disagree with u here. EXAGGERATOR it seems is an enigma. On wet tracks he is 3-4 with a narrow neck loss for 2nd. On fast tracks he is a terrible 2-8 now. There was no fix. Not only was Exaggerator racing 3x in 5 weeks but 4x in 9 weeks. That takes a major toll on young horses. Ok? If Gettysburg were a rabbit? 1:13+ for 6f really is not ideal for a closer. CREATOR showed his class and determination to run down a dead game DESTIN.
@courtneybrummet42808 жыл бұрын
I also feel like there was something genuinely wrong with Exaggerator. I don't think he would have gotten in the top 3 even if he had something left, but 11th? He dropped anchor, and I felt that was a little unusual. Maybe he was just tired after running in the other two races, and maybe he just didn't have a nice pace like he was used to. I don't know. =)

+Charles Ray Yes he was. AFLEET ALEX another. Who was the 3rd? When no triple crown on the line u get these wide open races or spoilers of the triple crown. Once again the 5 week angle was gold! CREATOR/DESTIN

The following race comments are from the official results chart (DRF) CREATOR tucked along the rail after a clean start, rated kindly continuing tohug the inside for the opening mile, slipped out into the two path leaving the half mile pole, narrowed in on the front runners, was put to solid urging swinging three wide into the stretch, split rivals in midlane while making steady progress on the leader, drifted out slightly from left side pressure from the sixteenth pole to the final seventy yards, all the while inching his way forward. kept a straighter course when switched over to a strong hand drive and wore down DESTIN in the final jump. DESTIN attained a prominent position soon after the start,got rated attending the pacesetter from the two path, continued along under the same scenario all the way to the quarter pole,got asked for more heading home, commenced the stretch approximately three wide, wrested away the advantage and shook free,emerging at the eighth pole holding his biggest lead, saw it dwindle down in a steadfast manner as the winner closed in, dug in with determination only to get nipped right at the finish line. LANI on the track last, left the post parade early, proceeded to come away at the start with no mishap, took the three path for most of the way on the clubhouse turn,departed the backstretch one path wider, was given his cue angling farther to the outside entering the stretch, was six wide by the conclusion of the maneuver, rallied to secure the show. GOVERNOR MALIBU remained along the rail after the start, kept an eye on the front runners sitting in the pocket, was checked while in tight and close proximity to the heels of GETTYSBURG at the quarter pole, angled into the two path only to have that lane blocked by the aforementioned rival, altered course back to the rail, was in the vicinity of the eighth pole,when forced to check in tight quarters when cut off by the former pacesetter, tipped wider and got going again, finishing with good courage to earn the last major check. STRADIVARI brushed the right side of the gate, sat forwardly placed in the two path and between foes early, chased the pace from the three path on the second bend, got roused challenging three to four wide into the stretch, wasn't up to the task at hand and weakened. BRODY'S CAUSE reserved in the two path during the initial stages, traveled three wide on the far turn, was put to drive past its midway point, stepped into the stretch and went on to mainly improve position. CHERRY WINE strung out three wide on the far turn, had no rally. GETTYSBURG off alertly, quickly established control, cut over to the rail, showed the way, rated and with the runner up accompanying him in path two, came under heavy pressure approaching the quarter pole, drifted into the two path under a strong hand ride entering the stretch, came in soon afterwards when put to some corrective right handed pressure, got overhauled by the furlong marker and tired. SUDDENBREAKINGNEWS spun four wide into the backstretch, departed it from the same path, drifted eight wide into the stretch with little left. TROJAN NATION was outrun off a ground-saving journey. EXAGGERATOR three wide on the first turn, was one path farther off the rail on the subsequent one,was put to a drive challenging for command setting foot into the stretch, came up empty and backed away. SEEKING THE SOUL raced three wide on both turns and tired. FOREVER D'ORO three wide on the first turn, was along the rail and used on the turn two, gave way. Source: www.drf.com/race-results

Governor Malibu may actually have won the race, or at least been a lot closer, if he didn't have such a horrendous trip in the stretch. "GOVERNOR MALIBU remained along the rail after the start, kept an eye on the front runners sitting in the pocket, was checked while in tight and close proximity to the heels of GETTYSBURG at the quarter pole, angled into the two path only to have that lane blocked by the aforementioned rival, altered course back to the rail, was in the vicinity of the eighth pole,when forced to check in tight quarters when cut off by the former pacesetter, tipped wider and got going again, finishing with good courage to earn the last major check." Adding on? They claim Kent Desormeaux is 46yo? On NBC he was on a segment with brother Keith about his drinking! Kent said he has been drinking for 35 years! U mean to tell me he has been drinking since he was 11 years old??? Hey, this was on NBC, not me! Bob Costas I believe did the segment.
@glyde698 жыл бұрын
Yea it's impossible for someone to start sneaking beers and drinking at 11. Unheard of. LMAO
@matthewhood47168 жыл бұрын
He did say that. Kent exaggerates a lot (no pun intended) so with his mentality, he could easily mean that he had his first drink of liquor then (11). Over the next couple of years, steal it from his parents or get it from someone he knows when he can. Then become a heavier drinker when he's a teenager He grew up in an area that it would not be hard to get booze as a kid and then it be an issue from there on out.
@Rayne89068 жыл бұрын
Creator & Destin were my top two picks! I started screaming/cheering like crazy when Destin took command at the top of the stretch, and continued cheering, didn't realize until after the race finished that it was Creator, who nipped Destin at the wire. Super excited! P.S - Funny thing is, people were saying that Destin couldn't get the 12 furlongs...Guess he just proved them wrong
@johnkaufmann88758 жыл бұрын
You are right! If anything? Todd Pletcher has a good Belmont Record and despite his Derby & Preakness failures he has had good success in the Belmont. I was never in love with SUDDENBREAKINGNEWS. He was the wiseguy choice and ran terrible. He might have been out of AFLEET ALEX on the dam but I saw little I liked. I was trying to figure out why DESTIN couldn't get 12f? Damn, he nearly won but glad CREATOR got him in the final jump! Also very happy IRAD ORTIZ finally got a huge one too! 😊

Tough beat with governor malibu, He checked up multiple times, still kept running. looked like he had a lot of course coming around the turn but only had one place to go, the rail, and as soon as he went there gettysburg shut him off. But he still kept fighting, Just wish We couldve seen how he wouldve done without the trouble.
@luvbft18 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, but Rosario drifted to the middle when the rail opened up. By the time he went back to the rail the 6 horse shut him off.

He was trying to do what he did on shaman ghost, thw 2 or 3 path was good yesterday. Shaman ghost didnt have any traffic problems though. Only opening was the rail, And I dont think the rail was good. notice malibu ran better when he got off the rail after he was closed off

@andrickkale3518 жыл бұрын
That's pretty much what happened, Howard. Exaggerator never looked settled through the whole race. They showed a closeup of him on the NBC broadcast and he was rank running along the backstretch, and was fighting his jockey. For a race as long as the Belmont, if a horse doesn't relax and settle into a nice rhythm on the backstretch then it pretty much has no chance as they turn for home. That's what happened here with Exaggerator. He was too eager.

Is there a more overrated jock than Rosario?? I'm a guy who doesn't pay much attention to the rotating jock game. Capping a race is a complicated puzzle, and cutting out any bullshit makes the job of winning money infinitely easier. So I barely recognize or care for jocks in any way. But man!!!! Every fucking time I see a bum ride.....it's Joel Rosario. What a stiff. Gov Malibu should have won with EASE, but not with Rosario aboard.
