If you want to add more strange demonic fauna to this area, I'd advise you to look to stuff like the Ars Goetia and Heironymous Bosch - lots of weird demons in those works that'd make great inspiration for creature design!

For the merchantine isles, I was thinking of a massive bird of prey similar to the prehistoric bird Argentavis. It could be attracted to shiny objects and likes to hoard them, decorating its big crest with jewelry and other things for mates or status. To tie it with the isles, based on its name it steals from merchants and tear metals from buildings to wear.

I really love that nightmare! I have a character that has a nightmare as a faithful steed. Of course my character is one of Death's guardians of the underworld, so it makes sense to have a nightmare as a faithful steed. My character's name is Bensvelk Vur Malsvir, which in the Draconic language means "Good and Evil". Working for Death, Bensvelk Vur Malsvir can no longer take sides, even though he sometimes does because he wants to see his wife and daughter again some day. The story behind that, I'll summarize, Death was bored one day and he destroyed an entire village. Bensvelk Vur Malsvir was known as Jed before this and he was out hunting when Death destroyed that village. Jed's wife and daughter were in that village, nobody survived. Jed cursed Death for doing that and Death doesn't like mortals cursing him, so he turned that curse around and made Jed into a demon-like servant to work for him as an Underworld Guardian to work in the overworld to collect lost souls and ghouls who still roam the overworld and be sent to the Underworld to be judged.

I would really like to see a northern fire hound, it's a concept I came up with that is basically a massive black wolf that is said to be an omen of death and a bringer of fire when in reality they just have a very hot body temperature to keep them alive in the norther mountains, and they often get to close to towns as they are drawn to the heat of nearby fires. I like this idea because in reality the are just big dogs, they could probably kill you in an instant but there still just tall fluffy buddies.

Does the Infernipede have an evolved respiratory system, or does it even require one? I've been looking to add "evolved" bugs into my own DnD world, but their respiratory system is archaic and limits their size due to how oxygen fuels the cells in an animal's body. I've been trying to think of a way to have their bodies evolve beyond "Give them lungs" and would like to see if you've had any ideas.
