The amphibious creatures in Island of The Fishmen (1979) are another example. The Deep Ones in The Shadow over Innsmouth also come to mind (were the creatures in Humanoids from The Deep inspired by that story?).

I didn't run across that in my research, but it's hard to imagine Humanoids from the Deep weren't at least partially inspired by The Shadow Over Innsmouth. An apt observation, young Mr. Van der Straeten.

I once suffered from a latex/rubber fetish myself, so this episode brought back some strange memories! Without a doubt, the hot-dog mouth creature was my favorite. I finally overcame my obsession with rubber, and while I'm totally cured, I've never thrown out a couple of old tires I keep in the garage. Suddenly, halfway through this episode, I realized it was probably those Soakies I had to bathe with as a little kid that traumatized me in the first place! Oh the memories that light the corners of our minds! I'm gonna go throw out those tires this weekend and then take a nice bubble bath. Cheers all, 'til next time!

I have never actually seen the movie but I have always heard great things about Slithis. It does my heart good to see Huminoids From The Deeps mutant fishmen make the list. One of my personal favorite creature features. Oh man Ghoulies 2. What a great movie. I’m in total agreement about the Cellar Dweller. He belongs in the Ghoulies universe. He ends up ordering a kit that allows him to create monsters that come alive & give his Uncle what's coming to him. I guess they acquire some old wet suits, glue and stitch things on and, provide some vents, so the actor doesn't die of heat. I wasn't much into assembling models, but I did have a Monster from the Black Lagoon one. The TV stations would the movie as a horror matinee. I put together probably around 1965. Many of the creatures end up being close to the same thing. I thought about a movie I would call THE RECTALATORS featuring worm like creatures that live in the sewers, come up through the holes in the toilets and shoot up into unsuspecting people's rectums. Do you know what lurks inside the hole in the toilets? You think you have your kid potty trained? Not anymore. Some kid being babysit by teenagers tells them he thinks there is a potty monster. They don't believe him, but it turns out there is. No poisons seem to work against them, so the authorities have to blow up the water treatment plant. Imagine a mushroom cloud of sewage collapsing onto the town.

I never had the model kit as a kid, though I have one now, but I did have the fish tank toy. And man, I loved that thing, fragile as it was. Sewer dwelling monsters are pretty spiffy as well. The smellier cousin of the water-based monster. And worms just work well for creature features in general.

Another great video! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Am wondering if the black lagoon monster inspired 'dr who & the sea devils' from the Jon Pertwee years? Bit sinister with their whispering voices. Also trying to remember the creatures on 'voyage to the bottom of the sea'? 🤔...your videos always get me thinking!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Oh man, good point. I bet Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is a goldmine for aquatic monsters. They even had an undersea werewolf. And that's one I've never seen in its entirety. Heck, I only remember pieces from when I was a kid. Thanks, Robin.

Excellent stuff. The down-side of a successful film is the rip-offs that follow. And every time the producers fail to identify what made the original a success. Avatar gave us a 3D resurgence. Jaws brought us more killer Fish,. and ET yielded a McDonalds' Advert.

Destination Inner Space has that great sci-fi movie logic: we've found something pulsating; let's bring it into the ship and maybe a bikini model pops out of it. Gotta give props to Piscis from THE BATWOMAN, pure Mexican bizzarro magic combining El Santo, Batman and the Creature From the Black Lagoon with a dash of James Bond. And props to Tsuburaya Productions Ragon. He first appeared in the OG Ultra series ULTRA Q, the show which was Kolchak before Darren McGavin even knew what a seersucker was. In his first outing on Ultra Q Ragon is a typical gill man wannabe but by his second appearance in Ultraman he's grown to Kaiju size because he came into contact with radiation from a nuclear bomb. Because as any scientician will tell you, any time bugs, lizards, dinosaurs and gill men hang around nuclear radiation they grow to Kaiju size. And honorable mention to the frog men that appear in MYSTERY on MONSTER ISLAND, a Spaniard movie which happens to have a gratuitous Peter Cushing cameo. Though brief the frog men are memorable for the wrong reason, they look fake. But then at the climax it's revealed that they and all the other rubbery monsters seen in the movie are in fact fake. Bummer.

Hoping for a bikini model to pop out is pretty sound logic. And being that that is what happens 9 times out of 10, it's probably worth the risk. If this one does well, the mutant goldfish from The Batwoman is a definite contender for a sequel episode. I might even try to squeeze in the one from Santo and Blue Demon vs the Monsters. Ragon is another good choice. Heck, that's almost a new list right there. Throw in some Creature from the Haunted Sea, and that's a party. I'm not familiar with Mystery on Monster Island, though. I shall go look that one up right now. Thank you much for the suggestion.

Hello there Sterling, I have to admit i would take the Creature from the Black Lagoon over any of these any day but that's just because he was a serious creature & not a campy sort of fellow but those others i have seen & as far as fun films, they are perfectly charming tough silly as hell. I am a bit surprised you left out the silly creature from The Creature from the Haunted Sea as he fits right in with these silly things. I have two box DVD sets of horror classics & cheesy ones as well & two of the films here are on them along with the Haunted Sea one which is rather funny for a cheesy monster film but it's a Rodger Corman gem, so nothing surprised me first time i saw it. Fun clip here as always & i must thank you for your last one as you mentioned something about the Outer Limits & my first season disc had broken ay the center so it was trash but it got me to go back & see if i could find just that first season & well i did & for only 18 bucks plus it's the same MGM release i had so the format is the same & so it's played great. Back in the game & a big thanks even if you were not intending to inspire me to go back and look for it as last i did, they wanted an arm & a leg for it. CHEERS & carry-on good sir & as you say keep it wacky!!!! 😂

I would take the Creature over most anything most any day, so right there with you. The creature from The Creature from the Haunted Sea nearly made the list. But there was some political intrigue behind the scenes that led to him being removed from consideration. I can't say too much, but he's a sore loser. That's great that you were able to replace your disc. And 18 bucks is a darn good price for it too. There's tricks that are supposed to fix a broken disc, we may have even talked about it, but I've never gotten them to work.

@@AtomicSnackBar I never cared much for politics but i know it does tend to get in the way of things & that's screwy looking monster anyway, but the film was fun. The trouble i had was the hole in the center of the disc broke & a chunk came out so i did try & use some5minute epoxy to fill it in & it did sort of work but i was not going to take the chance it may break & what pieces were left would end up in the DVD player so it was best to get a new one & it just took some patience & a reminder from you to get off my backside & find a new one . problem solved. Onward through the fog!!!
