considering they have to do all those things the most intricate way and seeing them do it with so much effort, passion and dedication to their craft makes me adore and respect them even more just to give us such one of a kind films/movies with incredibly amazing creativity and story that takes you to a different side of the world and leave you in awe (e.g. BoxTrolls, Paranorman and Coraline). with all of them doing such stuff, they should be given more than enough of what they deserve.

Kubo and the Two Strings and Sausage Party released around the same time. Kubo has a PG rating, it's budget was $60 million and has managed to make $50 million so far. Sausage Party with a R rating and a budget of $19 million has already crossed the $100 million mark. This speaks a lot on what appeals to the general audience. I sincerely hope this movie gets the recognition it deserves.

+K a lot of great movies don't make much money because of these mediocre movies. Pitch Perfect 2 beat Mad Max: Fury Road this year, and I'm pretty sure Star Wars: a Rogue one story is going to beat Scorsese "Silence" with Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver. Sad to think of it, but Hollywood wants money first, then art.

The one problem I see with stop motion now, is the lack of personal touch. Look at wallace and gromit, they didn't care about the fingerprints. The where fine with you knowing that the harectars where made of clay. Whereas with something like this, it might as well be made using 3d animation, because you wouldn't see a difference.
@CronosXIIII
@CronosXIIII 8 жыл бұрын
How on earth do they get the movement to look so smooth and fluid like that? It seems like it would be so difficult to make the minute adjustments to his posture each frame, while at the same time making sure that the animation looks right/remembering where his weight is/how he's moving ect. Seems like it would be a million times more effort than CGI.
@AllieHutchins

A stratedgy Aardman used to use, was to film someone doing the motion, then draw out each frame, then making sure everything is set up for the frame, before taking it. They would usually only do a few frames per day.

It's a software they use I wondered that myself in the past but now I know what software they use
@adamkimmV
@adamkimmV 8 жыл бұрын
Static Flickable No stop motion can look perfectly smooth without any special software. It just requires loads of tiny movements, at least 30 per second, and it wil look just as smooth as video footage of a person.
@whatshouldinamemyself481
@whatshouldinamemyself481 8 жыл бұрын
Adam Kimm What makes an animation smooth is the arc, not the frame rate. If they don't use any softwares they'd have to adjust the position every single frame they shoot to make sure they follow the arcs. Just imagine how much time that'll take. So I think they use softwares

I've dabbled in stop-motion a bit and hope to go back to it, and I've also researched it a lot but this video makes one really interesting point that I hadn't thought of; the way that there is all of the design and preparation and deliberation, and then there is a moment when everything comes to a climax and then it's just the animator, the camera and the puppets until the scene has been completed, days or weeks later. This seems to me like it mirrors stage performance in this way - except of course the whole process is drawn out over a far longer timeframe

This video is really inspiring... I'm in university for animation right now, and my passion is stop motion... My dream is to someday be a stop motion animator. I personally love the process and final look of stop motion a lot more than any other style of animation out there. Its absolutely amazing and I hope to someday do it myself!

It is a capital crime how underrated and overlooked this type of animation is. I feel so ashamed of myself for how much I don't fully appreciate these artists' hard work and talent.

being an artist, i almost teared up when the shot was revealed. there’s just nothing better than the final product being smooth and beautiful.

Wow. I have so much respect and appreciation for their work now. Stop motion is so tedious and painstaking. Kudos for these people for having the patience to do this.

Such an amazing movie. Even if it doesn't win the Oscars (we all know it'll be Zootopia) I'm glad that it's getting the recognition it deserves.

There is an exquisite magic to this kind of animation! I watch “Boxtrolls” and “Anomalisa” (my fav. stop-frames), and I am in love! 3D animation is great, but this tops that!

wow... that was something really difficult to do, every frame you have to change and what an expensive way of depicting a story. It is really marvelous how patiently they did the entire movie. hats off for such animators.

my all time favourite medium. i adore stop motion and the company itself, working as a laika animator is absolutely my dream job. i have nothing but respect for these people. even my amateur work takes weeks for just a minute or so, so i can’t even begin to comprehend how long they spend going over shots or backtracking and just general animating to get a full length film

I can remember seeing the very first stop-motion film Dan made when he was at university and knowing he was going to go all the way. You can't go any further than Laika, they're absolutely the best at what they do. Fantastic animator at a fantastic film studio.
