Kubo and the Two Strings and Sausage Party released around the same time. Kubo has a PG rating, it's budget was $60 million and has managed to make $50 million so far. Sausage Party with a R rating and a budget of $19 million has already crossed the $100 million mark. This speaks a lot on what appeals to the general audience. +K a lot of great movies don't make much money because of these mediocre movies. Pitch Perfect 2 beat Mad Max: Fury Road this year, and I'm pretty sure Star Wars: a Rogue one story is going to beat Scorsese "Silence" with Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver. Sad to think of it, but Hollywood wants money first, then art.

The one problem I see with stop motion now, is the lack of personal touch. Look at wallace and gromit, they didn't care about the fingerprints. The where fine with you knowing that the harectars where made of clay. Whereas with something like this, it might as well be made using 3d animation, because you wouldn't see a difference.
@CronosXIIII8 жыл бұрын
How on earth do they get the movement to look so smooth and fluid like that? It seems like it would be so difficult to make the minute adjustments to his posture each frame, while at the same time making sure that the animation looks right/remembering where his weight is/how he's moving ect. Seems like it would be a million times more effort than CGI.
@AllieHutchins8 жыл бұрын
that's why it's such an art, the movie is beautiful. They've mastered it. You should go see it if you haven't seen it yet!
@adamkimmV8 жыл бұрын
A stratedgy Aardman used to use, was to film someone doing the motion, then draw out each frame, then making sure everything is set up for the frame, before taking it. They would usually only do a few frames per day.
@antsgaming8 жыл бұрын
It's a software they use I wondered that myself in the past but now I know what software they use
@adamkimmV8 жыл бұрын
Static Flickable No stop motion can look perfectly smooth without any special software. It just requires loads of tiny movements, at least 30 per second, and it wil look just as smooth as video footage of a person.
@whatshouldinamemyself4818 жыл бұрын
Adam Kimm What makes an animation smooth is the arc, not the frame rate. If they don't use any softwares they'd have to adjust the position every single frame they shoot to make sure they follow the arcs. Just imagine how much time that'll take. So I think they use softwares

I've dabbled in stop-motion a bit and hope to go back to it, and I've also researched it a lot but this video makes one really interesting point that I hadn't thought of; the way that there is all of the design and preparation and deliberation, and then there is a moment when everything comes to a climax and then it's just the animator, the camera and the puppets until the scene has been completed, days or weeks later. This seems to me like it mirrors stage performance in this way - except of course the whole process is drawn out over a far longer timeframe

I can remember seeing the very first stop-motion film Dan made when he was at university and knowing he was going to go all the way. You can't go any further than Laika, they're absolutely the best at what they do. Fantastic animator at a fantastic film studio.
