Ryan Coogler and his father are huge Rocky fans and you can totally tell with the love that Ryan Coogler put into this film. Ryan’s writing is impeccable, for me it the best of the entire Rocky series. This movie has the best performance from Sly and the best writing of the character.

"Let me finish. I gotta prove it." "Prove what?" "I'm not a mistake." That is probably one of my favorite exchanges of dialog in the entire Rocky/Creed franchise. So glad you guys watched this. In Rocky II and Rocky IV, Mary Anne was played by Sylvia Meals, who passed away in 2011. In Rocky, she's played by Lavelle Roby, whose only scene is on the TV screen in the bar that Rocky and Paulie frequented. Phylicia Rashad, Claire Huxtable, plays Mary Anne here. She's actually the youngest of the three actresses, being only a year younger than Carl Weathers. "Duke Jr.," the son of Duke, Apollo's and later Rocky's trainer, is played by Wood Harris, who worked with Michael B. Jordan in Season 1 of The Wire. Though their characters are deceased, Tony Burton, who was Duke, died in 2016, and Burt Young, who was Paulie, died in 2023.

Hey M & J! I've been looking forward to watching along. Your reactions were everything I hoped for. It's always great when the new watcher appreciates everything that's important to the one who's seen it already. As solid as the Rocky franchise is, this is the best since R1 & R2, IMHO. The Rocky series took us through so many stages of life and now we come to some of the most poignant moments, when Rocky faces his own mortality while helping the next generation carry on. It really had all the elements of heart, humor, love, loss, call backs and triumph over adversity. It's amazing to think that a premise that started nearly 50 years ago could still be giving us characters that are so believable and authentic that we buy in and become completely invested. Looking forward to the next one.

Tony Bellew is a well known recently retired fighter on this side of the pond (Creed was a brief pit stop in his career.) The fight staged at Goodison Park, is home to Everton football club and Stallone became an Everton fan from that moment. I think the trainer let it slip out to the press that Adonis was Apollo's son because it would've been bad for his son to lose to an unknown fighter. But if he loses to someone who is the son of one of the best boxers of all time and now it doesn't look so bad. Of course, if his son had beaten Adonis, he might've let that information slip out too. Because it doesn't really help his son to beat an unknown fighter, but if he beat the son of one of the best fighters of all time, now his son has a ton of publicity going into his next fight. And they can make more money.

Hi there, yes, I did see Tyson yesterday. I'm a Tyson fan so of course I wanted to see Tyson win, but ultimately I was glad to see Tyson going the distance. This whole event reminded me of Rocky Balboa. I wish Tyson wouldn't have stayed on the "outside" all the time, because Tyson is an "inside" fighter, but considering his age I think he did his best. It wasn't a terribly exciting fight, but I didn't expect one either. Cheers! (:

@@BossMovieReactions Paul kept him at bay with his longer reach, and you could see that Mike was already getting a bit tired after the 2nd round and just blocked from then on. Everyone was hoping Mike would win, but this is real life, not a Rocky movie. 😄

Ima share some comments that might get some smoke and I am ready for a debate if anyone wants to have one: Eddie Murphy did a stand up in 1987 commenting that Rocky movies were a prime example of a white guy always beating a black guy in boxing. Because when you look at boxing history and especially during the time the movie came out, the dominate fighters have always been minorities. Yes, there were some white fighters over the years that had their moment, but never a Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Mayweather, Mike Tyson, Holyfield. etc. And I could totally see that perspective because an actual BOXING you never saw a white guy beating all of them (Except for Rocky Marciano, Tyson Fury and the Klitschko brothers) So, I can see where the director decided to have this approach and have the son of Creed being a dominant fighter, which is amazing and such a great legacy. At the same time I don't think the fan base really liked it as much as the original Rocky movies because Rocky was humble and he had really good self deprecating humor that we all can relate too, and frankly not a lot of people cared for baby creed swag, and his daddy issues.... I think the movie was great, but let's be real, if they had made this movie without Sly, I don't think this movie would have been that interesting and nominated for a golden globe. Overall, I think the director did a great job in re-introducing the rocky franchise to a a younger audience and thats' always important because so many great gems are lost over time. Thanks for reading
@BossMovieReactionsАй бұрын
Hello friend, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Although I personally never really see "colors," I think I agree with everything you've said. Insightful analysis. (:
@orangeandblackattackАй бұрын
@@BossMovieReactions Yeah, I dont see colors in characters and creating a racial issue out of..listen up youngster..Love Story movies..is something I think ur political party has pounded into your head. We are all American and Eddie Murphy is a comedian, so his goal is laughter. Carl Weathers never complained.
@orangeandblackattackАй бұрын
The movie, screenplay and everything was Sly's idea alone from the beginning showing his life via boxing in the background. So "they" would have never made this movie or franchise, so I dismiss the premise. Eddie Murphy is a comedian and it should be kept for what it was: hilarious observations. i do not see color like this couple doesn't. Ali and Tyson both said IF they could beat Marciano in his prime, it would be hell on them to do it. in 1976, Ali was considered the greatest of all time. Did you know who he said his toughest opponent really was? Jerry Quarry. Why? cause he could take the punches like Rocky. It took everything for him to finally knock him down. And let's not forget these are love stories, not boxing movies per Stallone. He didn't make them to make a statement that white guys are better fighters. So I just don't see the point going at something from this angle.

They did Apollo so wrong. Apollo was all about family and being a good role model and they ruined his good image.
@JPatel1995Ай бұрын
From Rocky to Apollo to Paulie to Mickey to Tony Gazzo and everyone else, they all had flaws… like real people in real life. Even Adrian was flawed .. to us the viewer, not Rocky of course. That is what makes the Rocky movies the all time classics that they are. Centered around characters each with redeeming qualities but each flawed in their own ways.
@BossMovieReactionsАй бұрын
Yeah, I thought the same thing, not nice to give that storyline to Apollo after he passed on, but "Johnny2Feathers" makes a good point that all these characters are flawed. It definitely makes for a good storyline. (:

@JPatel1995Ай бұрын
@@SFranc yes but that wasn’t his only flaw

It think it was very good but it lacked the heart in the fight scenes as rocky. IMO it's due to trying to make the fights too realistic and the music. Rocky was super hero hit with bombs that would blast him across the ring. There was no standing 8 counts or really much in way of rules. This movie tries too much to be like a real boxing event and it hurts it. The music for the whole movie also didnt have that punch.
