Maybe my favorite from Creed, it's tied with Aventus and GIT, I would ultimately say Aventus is my #1, OV #2 and GIT #3, those are my favorites from Creed.

Having tried Mugler Cologne and Original Vetiver side by side, the openings are strikingly similar, but the drydowns are where they differ. The vetiver and the ginger give Original Vetiver this fizzy, spicy and earthy background, while the Mugler Cologne transitions to a floral green tea drydown. I like Original Vetiver more, but not enough to justify the price.

Love the review. Hate the price. Considering Guerlain's Vetiver is similar quality and 10x less it's a hard sell. Beautiful scent though, I'd argue it's their best

That was quite interesting, George. Great work, as always. Speaking as a musician, sampling is something that I have mixed emotions on at times, though I'm not entirely opposed to it, especially in light of those I've enjoyed in the past; namely: Big Audio Dynamite, Portishead, and even the Happy Mondays (I may be dating myself in listing those first impressions since there is an entire generation in sampling now - to the point of it being a staple in the music industry). In relating that to fragrances as you eloquently did in this video (flankers could be seen as a follow up album to a debut, was what that inspired in my mind), I thought of how cooking can relate to sampling (yes, really), in that if you were to look at the musical piece as an ingredient in a dish, or even an actual prepared meal, then the emphasis would lie in seeing how those ingredients were transformed, isolated, or enhanced. This could even expand as to how it translates from one identifiable aspect of a culture through the filter of another. So, overall, there's great creative exploration which has certainly shown itself within the fragrance industry, especially throughout the niche world. I suppose likenesses are somewhat inevitable, in regard to enriching an element into expansion, so to speak. (This is being said with the assumption of a company's artistic ingenuity and not the financial prospect in cloning, of course.) And, lastly, I can also see having a perfumer give their version of another's established work in a similar way in which a singer would cover someone else's song to (hopefully) make it their own by taking the root of it engagingly elsewhere. With that said, I think I'd like to try out Creed Original Vetiver since I've enjoyed most of their fragrances, thus far.

Hard to talk about the art of fragrance without sounding self indulgent and pretentious but you convey your message in a compelling and accessible way more often than not. Re comparisons with Mugler Cologne and OG Vetiver I find the first 15 minutes are very similar but thereafter they go different ways. Not entirely surprising since Vetiver isn't even listed in the note breakdown of Mugler Cologne!

I was looking for some info about the difference between Original Vetiver and Vetiver Cologne by Creed, and I found your review about a month ago, but I didn't have the time to watch until now. I'm glad I kept the link and watched I really enjoy your review and let me tell you that I agree with you not only because we both have the same opinion but because the way you expose your idea. great work man keep it up.

I don't get all the talk about Creed price point , at least in Europe. Most Creed can be bought in several stores for 160 EUR/ 120 mL bottle... Now compare that to 250 EUR/ 50 mL which is the price of By Killian, Xerjoff, Amouage, Roja Dove etc... All in all Creed is around middle-of-the-road pricing in the niche world

I don't see how you can say this fragrance lasts 12 hours "but can see how others might not get that" (what does that even mean?) And then give it a 4/5 for longevity. How much more do you want than 12 hours at this price point? That seems fantastic if you're genuinely getting that long out of it. That's well worth the money

George. I definitely think you need to do more reviews like this. It was so interesting the way you compared this fragrance to music.

Great video and really good analogies. I presume that fragrance clones are therefore covers in the music industry or remakes in film?! I was thinking I hadn't received a notification of a video from you in a while, checked your channel and indeed found a few I hadn't seen. For some reason I'd been unsubscribed 😡😡 (thanks KZbin)!! The problem with musical sampling is at least in the early days with hip hop the compliment wasn't reciprocated to the original artist monetarily or even in the form of acknowledgement. With fragrances I can understand trying to unabashedly cloning something because it usually comes with that acknowledgement, at least in implication. Trying to cop a working formula and passing it as your own is quite sad however.

I like how you pronounce "vetiver". Sounds as smooth as the fragrance itself)
@nevermore3117 жыл бұрын
I was watching along thinking "I get what he's saying, and I agree... but I'm gonna leave a big fat comment about how it's not worth the money"... and then you factored it in there at the end. It feels as though they're almost forced to price their fragrances at $200+ due to "prestige" or whatever you want to call it. That often works out for them just fine, but I think it's different with this particular fragrance. OV would garner more favorable opinion if a 75ml retailed for say... $150 US. That's still about triple the retail price of 100ml Mugler, but like you said... they're far from being 100% the similar. But at the real prices of 6-7 times higher than Mugler, opinions will be swayed when people detect such a similarity. I liked your approach to the review though. Factor in both price and scent similarity, but with the "it is what it is" approach. This fragrance certainly is worthy of some artistic appreciation.

Now, I don't know as much as you (who could - not being sarcastic, you're fragrence reviewing genius - what a moniker ) but isn't creeds original vetiver an update of their own 'vetiver' from 1948 that JFK was always meant to be slathered in? I've smelled them both and it very much like an update of that (and not nearly as nice in my opinion ) It's just I hear it's a copy of mulgar cologne Because it's so close (As is 'vetiver' 1948) Anyway to make a long story longer , isn't this a little unfair on creed. Prepared to be stood corrected. Masterly channel. Would also love to know favourite films , directors, actors. Do you have another channel for all that?

Mugler cologne was enough for me. neither one is that great so why not go for the cheaper alternative? I can clearly smell the higher quality ingredients in the Creed but the scent is still boring to me so it doesn't matter.
