One of my proudest moments in life, I went outside to move my 25-year-old son's truck to do some maintenance on it, I fired it up and the stereo was blasting my boy Creed Fisher at full volume. When my son came out to help, I gave him a big old bear hug, he's like dad what was that for, I just smiled and cranked up the volume. He understood. Anyone you can tell absolutely anything to no matter what you are not aware of the lifelong emotional toll it takes on those that have lost a spouse they were married to for 77 years. When 1 dies the other is left with no one that knows their history back to childhood. Or carrying a child for months & he dies from SIDS ( crib death) & all the parents hopes ,dreams, future for that precious gift are gone. Or a child doing his job. High speed chase of a criminal & car crashed. In a split second that man is dead to keep you safe. Today's world the easiest thing we all can do is Be Kind!! It costs you nothing. I pray your loss, heartache,pain are easier today. There will & haven't been a day I don't think of my child. Most recently my husband. His parents married 77 years. His mom is 98. I know what she is feeling. Her 4 other sons are here. But my Father in law isn't. Even as adult children we will never know the loss our parents feel years after the person they loved & cared for is gone. Age got up daily and drove around the corner to visit him.. Didn't matter to her that he only had moments of clarity. Knew who she was. I know when she was there he was calm. Ate and talked. He remembered this beautiful lady tho most thought he didn't. The lies had to stop somewhere and I started with the One who was always there protecting me and waiting by my door to be let in. I’ve been sober for 23 yrs now and have not touched a drink since the day I made the promise to the Divine. Sadly she had/has her personality disorder’s to deal with as well, a very strong covert narcissist, who felt that after 32 yrs of marriage it was time to move on without me. I gave you my backstory first to let you know I never blamed her for all of it. I had my own ghosts to deal with and after sobriety with many years under your belt you become a humble & grateful man. But it wasn’t enough to conquer the power of narcissism. She threw a 32 yr marriage out the window like a gum wrapper. The hateful words they use during their verbal abuse phase are unbelievable. Along with destroying your personal property little by little. I’m currently staying in a motel going “No Contact” which is what is highly recommended by the one’s who’ve experienced this as well. I still feel and want to say to her, what Creed is saying in this beautiful song, but I know it’s too far gone to double back over the bridge that’s still smoldering. So I hold my head high knowing I gave all in my quest at being the best husband & father that I could possibly be. Sometimes God removes toxic people from your life to make room for the one who will love you without conditions. I have to look at it this way or I would’ve thrown in the towel years ago, plus I needed to keep my promise to God. So I go through the motions of another lifestyle that was thrust upon me, hoping and waiting patiently for my true soulmate to come into my life. To whoever stayed long enough to read this, I want to say God bless you and if it helps just one person, from going through what I did then it was worth it.
