Do you think you could film the whole process? Like show one hive through each day you have written down. From graphing to requeened? Would that be possible? I know it would take awhile.
@dandorosheff2564 жыл бұрын
Great tool for the queen rearing process. However, after downloading the link, the self-generating spreadsheet doesn't compute. I changed the date and nothing happened. I explored the cell with the date expecting to see a formula but only found the date. I though the other date cells would have formula associated with them, but no just dates text.
@dandorosheff2563 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason. I have a question about the timeline. When you move the frame from the queenless starter to the finisher hive. Is the finishing hive queen right? If so might the addition of queen cells prompt swarming? I take it the finishing hive has to be very strong also to finish all the queen cells? Thanks for the advise.
@ME_MeAndMyBees2 жыл бұрын
Yes ! Finishers are Queenright. However, she is in the bottom Deep with a Queen Excluder above her ! The Queen Cells get finished in the Deep above by the Nurse Bee etc... BUT You MUST MOVE the Queen Cells BEFORE these Virgin Queens hatch !!! OR have them Caged (from each other.) Or the 1st one Kills all her unborn Queen Sisters ! 😱 (The Bees can still feed these Queens in their Cages : but remember they need to be Mated as soon as possible !) So... make up Queenless Nucs. Add a Queen Cell before Day x13 -x14 !!! She will emerge safely a day or two later. 👍 ALL Queens hatch on Day "16" (that's x16 days from when the Egg was laid ! All Bees come from Eggs aged between Day x1 and Day x3. It's what's Fed them and how they develop that's makes them : Queens : Workers or : Drones (these are Eggs which are unferstilised either by the Queen choosing to lay by her : 'unferstilised' Eggs, to up the Drone numbers in the Hive. [Or a Worker by 'default' Eggs are not fertilised ( if Queen fails or dies.) Hope this helps. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 ! 🥳 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

B&K Bees suggested creating an app. Take a look at the “Queen Rearing Calendar” by Jonathan Chiwood. Jason’s spreadsheet gives better information for each step, but Chitwood’s app is good for those who understand the queen-rearing process.

I have a question on your 'JC's Queen Rearing Calendar'. I just did a walk away split, and I'm trying to use your calendar to determine when to 'harvest' queen cells for an additional split. (I plan to leave at least two queen cells in the queenless portion of the walkaway split, but there are at least four queen cells to work with, with drawn out cells and lots of royal jelly. When I made up my split, I made sure it had both eggs and very young larvae. When the bees start making emergency queens, are they starting with eggs (day one, two, or three on the left side of your calendar) or young larvae, such as you are grafting (day 5 on the left column of your calendar)? My problem is that all of the queen cells appear to be on the same frame, so I need to cut out a queen cell before the first one emerges and kills all the others!!! However, your calendar states that days 11, 12, and 13, (left column) are the sensitive development stage,, but the first queen will emerge on day 16 (left column). So there is very little margin for error!!!
@ME_MeAndMyBees2 жыл бұрын
Many years later.... 😆 You can press a DIY Mesh cage over the Queen Cell to 'contain' it and or the Virgin while doing the same for all others. That way all can hatch without a Death Fight occurring! 🤞 OR Cut out the most (oldest) Developed Ones carefully (with a good margin of Wax around each) Transfer them to a Nuc as needed. There they will be accepted by the Queenless Colony, go on her Mating Flight and then start a good Laying Pattern ! 👍 Hope this helps. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 ! 🥳 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

Thanks a lot Jason. I am sorry to make a late respond, but I just found this useful series recently. My Question is, is it a good idea to use cell punch method to transfer an egg rather than a larva? Because I think nurse bees will have more time to feed the new queen than transferring a larva.

Jason, this calendar sucks! I downloaded it and filled in the date and nothing happened, I have no new queens! Am I doing something wrong? Do I actually have to physically do these steps with my bees for this calendar to work? I'm confused? I thought as long as I filled in the date the rest would just magically happen?? If I have to actually break into the bees and work with them, I could get stung! Please help, I don't want to get stung...can you do it for me? LOL! Seriously though man, thanks for this series of vids, it's great. I caught my first swarm of the season the other day and split two hives. I have a few more that need splitting, they're really building up fast now here. Hope all is well there! Awaiting the next episode! Take care.

Oh almost forgot. :) The calendar that I use is one day ahead of yours. I'm inserting cells right after the development phase. I understand why they do it that way because if you have one hatch a day early....but that can work both ways and they could be in the last stage of development when moving cells.

You need to redo the sheet again. The right column especially. The wording in the box changes from "STEPS" to DAYS at 7 I think that the questions about editing come from the sheet itself on the blue "VIEW" (mode) button. if you click on it, it asks for permission from you to edit the document. You have it set to view only which is probably why it does not generate the dates correctly for formulas.
@JCsBees6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know. Now do you know is there a way to to lock all of the calendar except the date at the top? I am thinking that giving everyone a chance to edit could be a disaster. I don't want people changing the format of each cell only the top date.
