You got to understand, this is a cover of an emo rock song, that is what Post Modern Jukebox does, they take a song and sing it in a totally different style. You have to already know the original "Creep" to really get the level of goodness this cover is.

Others covered the whole "it's a cover, you should listen to that"etc, but I'm disagreeing with your statement that it doesn't make sense because she's beautiful and sings well. I'm sure even she feels like a creep and a weirdo every once in a while, or even more often. If someone says they don't, they are either lying or are a narcissist. I did love your reaction though!

The song makes far more sense in the original style and context - generally speaking, if you're going to listen to a cover, listen to the original first, even if you don't want to have a reaction video to it. That said, please do more Haley Reinhart and Postmodern Jukebox - Morgan James is another amazing singer who has done quite a few songs with them. (their cover of All About the Bass actually has both Morgan and Haley)

Simone, there are many pieces to Haley's story, including: - PMJ is a "rotating musical collective", i.e. scores of first rate musicians and singers "on call" to be grouped as needed for a particular performance or tour. - Haley was (is?) one of PMJ's singers. There are others who are also VERY talented. - She finished 3rd in the 2011 American Idol talent show...some of her fans claimed that biased judging (she was too "jazzy") cost her the expected win. - She was born into the family band--both her mom & dad are musicians (and sometimes perform with her.) - In addition to her collaborations with PMJ, she does covers of old rock classics plus a few originals. - She bills herself as a "lo-fi soul"...and would have been right at home in the 1920s - 1960s. - It's always a good idea to hear the originals before her covers. A good "playlist" for Haley will include: Originals: - "Honey, There's The Door" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXKngJ2lg9qrb9E - "Deep Water" kzbin.info/www/bejne/rajPdGh5bd6diZo Covers: - "The Letter" (The Boxtops, 1967) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPak4t_gZuajdk - "Baby It's You" (The Shirelles, 1961) kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5mcZ4KOj8-Zebs - "Blue" (LeAnn Rimes hit, 1996) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGnWp2errNOZldk With PMJ: - "Seven Nation Army" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXOZeYxup55racU - "All About That Bass" (trio with Morgan James, Ariana Savalas, and Casey Abrams) kzbin.info/www/bejne/l33Ri2SEhtJlq80 - "Oops, I Did it Again" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZCrf2hmibGol6s - "Mad World" (duet with Puddles Pity Party) kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4fIp6mYe7N-n7s

This is something I find fascinating about PMJ and this cover in particular. The original version sounds much more critical in regards to the singer. The lyrics are self deprecating and meant to idolize the object of the singer's passion. What Haley and PMJ do here is take those lyrics and change the genre. This not only changes how the song sounds literally, but uses the "feel" of jazz to change the meaning of the words. Instead of being harsh on herself, Haley sounds like she's being coy and flirtatious. She doesn't sound like she believes she's a creep and a weirdo. She sounds like she's pulling the listener in to compliment her -and by extension enhancing her beauty.

It's a song about unrequited love. The singer feels inadequate and weird, but admires someone angelic . That hopeless feeling of being only able to watch the person you like and being unable to approach them because you know you don't belong.

The song CREEP is about that feeling we have ALL had at one time or another, regardless of how we look -- that feeling of not belonging, not being accepted, etc. The lead singer of Radiohead, Thom Yorke, wrote the song from a personal experience he had as a young man with a girl he evidently adored who didn't even know he was alive.

Just look at the song like this, even people that everybody in the world thinks they are all that and a bag of chips, that person also has insecurities about them self. That's what I've always taken from the song is that you can think it's the most incredible person in the world but Behind the Music and everything they might have insecurities that makes him feel like they are kidding the world and I truly don't belong where they are.....I remember Brian Justin Crum did this cover on America's Got Talent and with all the talent he has still growing up as a gay man everyone picked on him and he had tremendously low self-esteem like maybe he was just as rotten as people talked about him and felt like he just didn't belong thought he was a creep...

According to Wikipedia, "In July 2011, Reinhart signed a recording deal with Interscope Records" but the following year she was "dropped by Interscope Records following a change in the company's management...." Apparently, having been burned once, she decided to go a different direction. I like all the recommendations--especially "Honey There's The Door"! That one is very cute--allowing her personality to shine through.
@theblackdog23994 жыл бұрын
@@rcinsley Actually, Jimmy Iovene left Interscope to go take over Apple Music and when he did, he took all of his millions of dollars with him. That left Interscope in a financial bind. Hence, to avoid having to file for bankruptcy, Interscope trimmed their artist roster by 65 music artists that were all trimmed simultaneously. Unfortunately, Haley was one of them. Nonetheless, to this day, Haley talks glowingly about how well she was treated when she was at Interscope. Which makes her reluctance to sign a record deal today all the more puzzling. In any event, cause she won't sign a record deal with a record label and even though they have all been trying to sign her up for years now, she ensures that her career will always remain very small time and very mediocre. Which is sad cause she could easily become a really big music star and become very financially secure at the same time. Furthermore, she didn't always feel that way. As her publishing company once financed an album for her. As their hopes were that she would be able to sign a record deal as a result of that album. One of the songs on that album became a viral worldwide sensation on Spotify and subsequently a platinum selling record for Haley. Anyway, as soon as that song went viral, her publishing company flew Haley to New York City to meet with record label executives. A couple of weeks later, they flew her to Nashville to again meet with record label executives. Then she negotiated in Los Angeles for about another 8 or 9 months with all of the big major record labels and it seemed like she was going to pick one of them and sign a deal. As during that same time period, she also did a lot of radio interviews cause she was promoting her hit record and she used to say in a lot of those interviews that at this time next year, that she was expecting to be the next Tory Kelly. She also mentioned in some of those those interviews that those negotiations with the record labels were very scary. However, something happened, as she ended up turning them all down. She lost her nerve and chickened out. I'm guessing she was just overwhelmed by the experience. Like Tori Kelly is doing, Haley needs to find someone to run her career for her. As she has no clue what she is doing. As obviously negotiating a record deal with record labels was too much for her to handle. As she needs to focus only on her art and to leave the business end of her career up to a professional. That's what all of the big music artists do.
