Back in the day on the internet it was kinda common-ish to have internet "family" etc. Though at the same time it's important to acknowledge how corrupted the concept has become thanks to these bad apples and all around terrible people. Taking something that truly was innocent and more kind-hearted and abusing it for the sake of depravity and taking advantage of mostly children. Current day? It's more common for it to be a gross grooming attempt than a real and genuine inside joke/thing among peers.

As a 19 year old who use to be forced into that "Parent role," its SO WEIRDDDD. The kid that called me his mom was 14 YEARS OLD. I cut ties with him of course and I haven't seen him in months, nor do I ever want to. Idk if I’m called a vr parent but I used to play vrchat. It was 2 years ago. I met 3 very young kids 15-13 They would cry about the problems with their parents irl even said their thoughts of suicide I give them lots of advices and even got them out of the dark sides. they saw me as their safe space. A year later, they got their phones and asked for my social media. I gave them my user and we stayed friends. I was 17 at the time I’m now 18. Ever since the day I saved them they call me mom. I’m still in contact with them, they would talk about their school and motivation and inspiration. Kids are sweet and I hate when adults or people older than them bully them just because.

I've done this before. Like have had a "Vr family". I was probably like 16-18. I met this kid who was funny asl and he'd go off on people and insult them for no reason. I decided to "adopt" him and kept things PG constantly. No adult topics were ever brought up to him. From time to time, I gave him advice when life got hard. I tried to help him with coping with his parent's divorce from my own experience, but I always kept a boundary. I've always tried to encourage him to speak up to his mom about how he deals with everything. I was his "Vr mom" for 1-2 years. Nothing ever happened that could be considered creepy.

As a Vrchat mother, I hate it when people use being a “Vrchat parent” as a way to be a fucking creep. As a Vrchat mother my role is to play as a mother, I mostly just protect them from people that show big red flags, like pedos or people that show weird behavior. I’m 22 and all my kids age rang from 25-13. I’m just someone they see as a mom or look up too or just someone they can talk too without feeling judged.
