I'm not a Doomsday Prepper by any means. But my great-grandmother (who lived during the Depression) had a huge part in raising me. Thankfully, she taught me how to survive and live off of the land. I now own her farm and 200 yr old house (complete with original woodstove in the kitchen). I've lived my life by her teachings, and do the best I can at sharing my knowledge with my kids so they can be self-sufficient as well. I'm so grateful that if anything were to ever happen, we could easily go back to basics and not even have to worry about whether or not we had a generator. Yes, generators are amazing if the power goes out. But what happens if it goes out for an extended period of time? Those generators have to run off of fuel, which is pumped by electricity (unless you have solar). We raise our own animals and hunt for most of our meat. If it should ever come to a point where we can't run the tractor anymore, we still have the old manual farm equipment and hand tools. I think everyone should know where their food comes from and how to produce it themselves.
