I have thousands of MtG cards, and I buy new ones every week or so. I don't play any competetive formats and simply deckbuild/collect. I think if you're buying MtG cards, especially boosters, you should never expect a return. Sure you can pull something nice and sell (which I always do with Standard cards), but other than that you pay for the cards+time spent having fun

20:00 To expand on the idea of doing the boring thing to build wealth and security: "It is necessary for me to be extremely frugal for some time, till I have paid what I owe. To apply myself industriously to whatever business I take in hand, and not divert my mind from my business by any foolish project of suddenly growing rich; for industry and patience are the surest means of plenty" - Benjamin Franklin. He understood that in order to build wealth you must be frugal, apply yourself to your business, and have the patience and discipline to commit to that plan. None of which are particularly glamorous but it works.

This video forced me as a card player to ask myself: Why do I continue to purchase packs on the small chance of pulling a playable card? It’s much less expensive to buy the singles. I guess it’s the thrill of opening the packs, it gets me every time. I whine when I don’t get what I want, but really the joke is on me. If you want a particular card, buy the single. If you want the thrill of the chase, open to your hearts content

Well, if we aren't going to see prices at their normal/traditional ranges ... LGS's aren't going to be seeing a lot of sales. If Timmy doesn't buy his packs, WOTC can't afford to pay for tournaments... No Tourny's, no whales buying elite overpriced cards to win.... everything collapses. No more cards, everything switches to digital. When you spike the prices, be ready for the average people to reassess their commitment to your product. I plan to go by my nearest LGS tomorrow after work, I want to pick up some War of the Spark and I will inquire to Modern Horizons... if they are asking 200+ for MH ... well, thanks but no thanks.

I'm 32, been a Chef and a Handyman my whole life. Quit working 2 years ago as a chef to work with my older brother, we started up our own handyman business. We where our own bosses. Now we aren't working with no money coming in at all. Lost everything but my car. We both moved back into our parents house. Starting to get older, I realize that I wont be able to keep doing this kind of work forever. I'll get a job as a Chef(they get paid good around where I live), work my ass off and save as much as I can, all while learning real estate and investments. Then I plan on taking your advice in this video, because you're right. I'm a hard worker, I've worked my ass off for the better part of 18 years. At this point in time, I have absolutely nothing to show for it. I'm getting tired of working, let the money come to me!

Brother sucks, suck it up deal with it, get job, save up money so I have 'disposable income'. Study up during the time I save up, look for investments. Do it! I fucked up the first 30 years! It took me so many years to wake up and no longer be a Timmy who spent his whole paycheck every time he got one. To start cutting back and be more frugal. I am currently trying to wake my girlfriend from her Timmy state of “we have money so we should spend it” and hopefully get her to start spending less money every time we get paid so we can start saving. Great stuff 🙌👏 thank you for educating people.

wow. i love the realtalk about the realistic pricing in the LGSs and also you pointing out that investors and online sellers wreck the perception of what a fair price is. i work in a store and i have to explain to customers all the time that we can't sell them boxes for 80 bucks, when we only make 5 bucks of profit on a box. i can't pay staff with that, i can't even pay the electric bill with that. people's perceptions are so skewed by online prices that they have no idea, what a realistic price for magic is, and that makes me sad. all i can say to the people, "well here's your choice, i give you 15% discount on the msrp. this is standard discount for bulk buying in the games sector. i can't do anymore, or i'll have to shut this whole thing down. take it or leave it. i will sell the single booster packs for 3,99 anyway, even if it takes time. this is your chance to walk home with your box now and you saving 15% on 36 packed fresh booster packs. your choice." it makes me sad, that some people still think, we're trying to rip them off, when it is actually the online sellers skewing the value of the product so far down, that it is nowhere near to being realistic.

I don't play MTG but I do play Pokemon TCG, and one of the biggest money pits I see in most players is the constant deck hopping. People always trying to stay at the top of the meta lists. They buy cards, usually singles, when the decks are HOT and prices are at a premium. I insist on having 2-3 decks that will survive a couple rotations, that fit your playing style, and then modify the deck simply to counter the meta. Plus the upside is YOU KNOW THE DECK! Decks that are often considered "dead" will surprise people when you play them. Any hobby is pay to play. Minimize the money you spend, maximize the fun you have! When the rotation happens, either keep the cards, sell them (you've already had the fun) or export them into the broken expanded format lol Plus hustle like a mahf on the side. Side hustles offset hobbies beautifully.

One of the big reason I haven't jumped back into magic is because I know magic is expensive. I spent a ton of money on cards as a teen, and today I'd rather save money. I kept all my cards from back then and maybe that's something I never tried was selling old cards to get more cash to buy cards, and thus create a cycle flow of cashing paying for the cards themselves.

Always tried to approach magic with the kitchen table outlook. The value is in the playing and not the hoarding. Binders will eventually get sold or thrown out, but casual budget decks you can always pull out, grab a life dice and give her a shuffle. I remember I picked up a old god pharos gift list worth 100 dollars, rotates out it's worth 30. How does that make sense to new players.

Really fantastic video. I don't fall into a lot of these categories. The monetary value of my cards isn't something I look forward to get when I sell. It's the money I DON'T have to spend to get the good stuff. Money is finite... and I should've got 2 boxes of Horizons, instead of Spark. Urza AND Yawgmoth! AAAH! lmao Cheers, dude =D

Rudy, you ever heard or read a book called, “I hope they serve beer in Hell”? Your demeanor and tone gives off a similar humorous but serious tone of life lessons. Shoot, I’d buy and read a book you wrote if you ever do.

It's a simple lesson to learn the difference between "buy price" and "sell price", but it takes so long to sink in.

I find both Contrarian Rudy and Conspiracy Rudy straight up super annoying. Box opening Rudy is very entertaining, but nothing more than that. This Rudy right here, Financial Advisor Rudy or Life Perspective Rudy, Father Figure Rudy, whichever Rudy this is, this is the best Rudy. This is what I come back for. Great video.
