@firstcooommment36755 жыл бұрын
The second game wasn't bad. It did take away from exploration, but it kept the several endings, added in more locations, and added new weapons. The big downer was that it wasn't a journey like the first, but it had a good overarching story mode that involved several characters. And you can see the story in different perspectives when you try to match them. The main complaint for some, is the final boss on one side. Due to his difficulty, he needs to be killed repeatedly, until you kill him kneeling.

Your actually lucky they didn't show the gory details of the seppuku, that is messed up. But to be honest, as forced as this bad "good" ending feels, I can respect when a game doesn't want to give you a happy ending. Sometimes stories don't have a happy ending, and I would much rather a game respect me enough to stick to its guns, then have it pull a happy ending out of its ass because it was afraid of offending me.
@KaedeLanyo7 жыл бұрын
This, a thousand times this. I can't even count the number of "good" endings in all types of media that feel just soooo forced, often to the point of making no sense!

It's fine when an unhappy ending happens, but sometimes even those feel pointless and stupid, especially if you go through a lot of shit and it all adds up to nothing. Of course, those are quite a bit more rare.
@user-unos1117 жыл бұрын
Problem is, this can also happen with bad endings and it can be even more infuriating. Don't hate when a writer wants to put some sad ending just for the sake of it, rendering the entire plot pointless?

If you guys want a real frustrating ending, you should read a short story called The Lady and the Tiger. It's the most infuriating thing ever.
@sharkjumpingwalrus67447 жыл бұрын
+111 111 True, that being said, I was referring to stories that by no means should have a happy ending. I will acknowledge that forcing a sad ending is just as bad, but bear in mind I said that I respect a game that sticks to its guns. Meaning that I did in no way imply that bad endings are the only good way to end a game. What I intended to say was, you shouldn't pull the equivalent of bringing Bambi's mom back from the dead. +I believe what you are referring to is a special type of sad ending, what TV Tropes calls a "Shoot the Shaggy Dog" ending. Those endings are overused, but they have their place in gaming. Games like Shadow of the Colossus are made more powerful by making it so that everything you have done amounted to nothing in the end.

Oh man, Live a Live (how is it pronounced, though?) - such a great game. Lots of people seem to think that it didn't come to the west because it would have been censored to oblivion, but I disagree. It came out in Japan in September 1994, and the ESRB was established just two weeks later in North America. I think Live a Live could probably been released in the west, simply becuase Nintendo stopped censoring games when the ESRB was established.

If you ever plan on reviving the Creepy Good Endings series, I'd recommend the ending to Shovel Knight: King of Cards. After defeating the final boss of the game, King Knight is give one of two options: join the Enchantress, or save his friends. He chooses joining the Enchantress, and chaos and despair ensues. It essentially adds more context for why Shovel Knight, Plague Knight and Specter Knight fought King Knight the way they did in their respective campaigns.

If you're looking for Creepy Good Endings, try Chrono Trigger. The final ending is effected by the smallest actions! Not only that, but the best ending is debatable, similar to Breath o... that game. Did you eat an old guys lunch at the very start of the game? If so, you're getting a bad ending! ...I'm not kidding.
@tylerchenoweth50177 жыл бұрын
Wendy's For one, no the lunch affects the endings, that only affects the trial. Two, I'm sure he's covered Chrono Trigger already. For the endings, there's a lot of possibilities considering Crono, Magus and the state of Epoch. In example, You save Crono and spare Magus and not crash the Epoch. Or, Crono dies and you kill Magus and crash the Epoch or save Crono, kill Magus and not crash the Epoch and so on.

@yoshiyoshi4357 жыл бұрын
Also, you don't actually have to do this on your second opponent, but if you never enter the well manually by the time you beat the fourth opponent, you won't get the better ending. Other than that, it is pretty darn cryptic.
@shards-of-glass-man7 жыл бұрын
Well, the story of this game is that you must ~escape~ the dojo, and all the other characters are your fellow clan members who were sent to kill you aganist their will. Seems logical that to get the best ending, you must do exactly that - escape the fights and avoid dishonorable killing. As is crippling the legs - if your opponent can't walk, they can't jump down the well, and you won't be forced to kill them. And I'm pretty sure you can trigger the ending flag starting with the first opponent as well, not only the second. ...though to be fair, this is still a major Guide Dang It, even if it makes sense when you look at the conditions.
