Ironic he’s insisting that OP’s wife be more like Fluttershy considering the character’s entire arc was about conquering her anxiety, becoming more social, and even learning to stand up for herself. Fwiw, as a fellow depressed person, I'd like to offer something that helped me. Maybe you're not "perfect", but, you never will be. Perfect is an illusion. You ARE *good enough* though, even now. Even when you're struggling hardest. Especially then! You can always be better, you can always grow and improve, and trying to is absolutely a worthwhile pursuit. Just try to remember; if you are worth anything later, then you are worth something now.

That guy was a predator, he viewed insecurity, anxiety and likely depression that goes hand in hand with it as an attractive trait because a partner with that trait would *need* him and his validation and support too much to look beneath the surface. This guy is likely an incel as well, and I get the feeling that even if or when his predatory behaviour works the relationship would likely dissolve or deteriorate very quickly. He wouldn't have the patience to actually put up with a partner that needed him in the way he drools about in his mind and would project the frustration of that situation back onto the partner. 'Nice Guy' isn't unique in this and the sad thing is that under the right circumstances it does work and people who are lonely and vulnerable get taken advantage of. People with mental illness, like you, like me, need to stick together, and that's why communal games like DnD are so important, even if it's online. Having a group that can look out for someone who isn't currently capable of advocating for themselves saves so many lives in so many little ways, and can help that person move towards recognising their own self value and their own right to not have to rely on necrotising pestilence dressing up as a human for any measure of their purpose or worth as a living being.

Honestly, that mindset of "you're perfect the way you are" is what has led to so much awful in society. No one takes responsibility anymore because X. No one bothers to have common decency anymore because X, why self censor your authentic self? (All used facetiously fyi, "no one" is not literal.) No one tries to improve themself because acceptance means you're fine in stagnation. This mindset is what changed the Body Positivity movement, all body types are beautiful (not obesity, but pears/ apples/ hourglass/ skin color/ hair texture/ etc.), into a demand to never ridicule/ get exasperated by/ just deal with extremely overweight people breakings seats and making airplanes impossible. Look, I'm overweight, my self worth isn't tied to how others see me, maybe try that instead of demanding others kowtow to your self centered beliefs??? Be it the child who never learns how to try something they're not good at to improve or the adult who refuses to compromise because they don't need to, this mindset is PURE toxicity. No one is perfect. No one should be seeking group acceptance. What you should be seeking and working on is learning how to love yourself, which means being able to set goals, discipline, change approaches and qualities and mindsets, etc. It's hard work, but it's far better than being a spoiled brat demanding tolerance when you give none in return.

Not only did it make me laugh, I am surprised the dwarf player was faulted for doing this. It makes perfect sense for his character to stick to the theory and be delusional enough to think he can solve the problem with one shot. The real problem is the other party members and DM not expecting this - although maybe the dwarf player should have given them some clue or ask them to roll insight or clarify he was up to something by asking the DM to accept a Deception roll.

Due to the fact that that dude seemed to know nothing about how Fluttershy got a lot stronger, more confident and independent as the series progressed, something tells me he's not actually a pony fan, but just happened to find a character on the internet that could fulfill his sick need to find someone insecure to be completely dependent on him, and a character from an all-ages show who starts off very overdone in that aspect was probably just an unfortunately easy target for him to latch onto.

Her being as powerful as she needed to be just smacked of laziness, which I felt was very unfortunate in a show that had some fairly good writing to that point. There were many flawed episode, but most are still watchable. I also felt it was an unfortunate choice because Starlight had made for a cunning, underpowered villain when she debuted. She couldn't just be beam-spammed with the rainbow power, she had to be defeated by other means. The Mane6 had to be... smart.

what was the troubles and what happened?
@caoimhedoesstuff9293
@caoimhedoesstuff9293 Жыл бұрын
@@johnnyferalcat896 it’s very complicated to explain in a small comment section, but it was a conflict between catholic republicans and Protestant unionists in Ireland. There was a lot of inequality between Catholics and Protestants, and there was also a thing called Gerrymandering going on which I don’t fully understand but it’s basically moving voting borders and stuff to make sure the political party that one group wants gets voted in no matter what, which basically meant that republicans had zero chance of a Republican Party majority. Basically the troubles started as Catholics trying to gain equality, but when the conflict started it became messy and brutal. There were many paramilitary groups, such as the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and the UDF (Ulster defence force). These paramilitary groups committed atrocities, killing each other and innocents. Even today in Northern Ireland there are arguments happening about wether or not people should be prosecuted for crimes committed during the troubles. Eventually the Good Friday Agreement was signed, which arguably saw the end to the worst of the troubles. I’d recommend reading about it because it’s a complex series of events that can’t be summed up with enough nuance in one comment. Long story short, we’re still experiencing the aftermaths of the troubles in the country today. Effigy’s of Catholics are being burned in bonfires, the government is effectively in standstill, and there is constant back and forth that goes nowhere. Even Biden has commented on the current unrest in the country.

Pretty sure he just wants to bully girls into forming a "harem", but is too boneheaded to realize that you need to actually, you know, have girls who *_like_* you before you've got any chance of having a monogamous relationship, much less a polyamorous one-something which the majority of people are uncomfortable with, for obvious reasons.

Marriage is failing because guys are tired of signing the contract that rewards a women when she breaks it and punishes him, even if she's the sole reason the contract broke. She cheats, she divorces, shes awarded half of everything he's ever worked for and now he has to pay her alimony, monthly checks. No sane guy wants that.

Yeah, marriage is an outdated concept. But that does not mean it’s an invalid option. If people want to get married that’s fine. If people don’t want to get married, also fine. If people, either married or unmarried, want to have a poly or monogamous relationship with people they choose, also fine. They should not have to face societal pressure from others in how to live their lives so long as they are doing what they want, and not hurting others. And that also means that a monogamous couple should not face pressure from a nice guy just because he wants a piece of the action.

While both of us agree the way Xian and so many other religions view of marriage is disgusting, creepy and dehumanizing, we both enjoyed having the community recognize what we share. We got married because we honestly love each other, make each other happy and living with each other is a delight even when hard times hit ( I would rather be digging our car out of a snow drift with my spouse. than anyone else) Its a relationship based on mutual respect, trust, empathy and love that we both cherish. So yah, that kind of marriage between people is completely feminist!

So this is only very tangentially related to this story, but the Nice Guy trope has done sooo much damage to the image of the Fedora, a few people actually came up to me when I walked into a club wearing one (with a wide, flat brim) and straight up asked whether I was an incel. It's a shame too, large, waterproof felt hats that you can crumple and stuff into your backpack without fear of it loosing form are super handy but I've met quite a couple of people who don't want to wear one due to this newly arisen stigma.

Irish natives didn't have many civil rights and there were a lot of protests trying to fight for those rights or for a united ireland. Then in the 1970s, the British army sent undercover militias into the north of Ireland to murder civilians in drive by shootings pretending to be the other side (ie pretending to be british occupants killing irish natives and vice versa) in order to start a civil war that lasted officially until 1998. A lot of people died and there is still a lot of religious segregation and tension still in the area, not helped by Brexit threatening the treaty that caused the tentative peace in 1998. I think the key to good D&D is to play with people you already know, like and trust, especially at first. Getting into character can be pretty embarrassing and if you're already anxious the comfort of that space being one you share with people you trust can really, really help. If it's everybody's first game and the rules feel intimidating, don't be afraid to do something rules lite! There's a ton of games out there and while D&D can be dense and intimidating (though 5th ed is more approachable than its predecessors) stuff like GURPS tends to be pretty one-size fits all. The "Beer and Pretzels" genre can be a really good place to start-they're generally very rules lite systems that focus on a one-shot experience, kind of a roleplaying appetizer. Kobolds Ate My Baby was my gateway game and one I recommend, but there's countless games out there for every tone and level of engagement. If you can nab 2-3 people you know and trust and talk them into it, you'll have yourself a homegrown D&D group before long.
@Setesh0

It depends really. I have an anxiety disorder but I've always found playing a character to be easier than being myself, having that mask (literal or otherwise) helps make a buffer between your real self and the outside world. And there's a benefit to not playing with people you know at least online, which is if things don't work out you can always just disappear, plus the online aspect again adds distance, especially if you're not doing video, or voice chat. Then again my D&D experience also coincides with me actually getting help with my disorder, so it was probably a merger of all the above for me even though the anxiety is nowhere near gone as of this writing.

For the longest time I had a Knight in shinning armor complex that lasted from my teens to mid twenties. Looking back, I cringe on how I acted or thought. Inherently, I still don’t believe there’s anything wrong with the tale of a noble warrior saving a damsel in trouble. Yet I have seen how that concept can be twisted for selfish ends. The true noble warrior saves the damsel because she’s in legitimate trouble, not just what the warrior sees as trouble. He does this out of selfless. The damsel is by no means obligated to “reward” the warrior. In the context of this post, the human fighter is the true noble warrior because he’s supporting his future wife over coming her metal issues. He’s doing this because he wants her to improve as a person and isn’t seeking to control her. That guy is claiming to be pro female empowerment but doesn’t want her to improve? That guy is more like Jabba the Hutt than Luke Skywalker or Han Solo.

I'm a woman who grew up loving the "knight in shining armor" typ of characters and inspired to be one myself. But I never thought of it in a romantic, swiping someone you like off their feet, type of trop. I saw them helping others when they were a in need and showing them that someone cares about them and wants them to be happy, free and protected from harm so that they can flourish, grow and spread that experience to others either by becoming someone to stand up for others as well or by using their ability they were mocked for or were too afraid to use for people who can benefit from it and helping others in ways other's, including myself, couldn't help. My role models were people like Luke, Einstein, Naruto, Luffy, Steven Hawking, Mary Poppins, Marie Curie, Pippi Langstrumpf, Sam, Éowyn, Aragor and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings and obviously also people I met through my life like the friend of my father who told me to strive for something higher when my self esteem was that bad that I was about to give up on my dreams, my mother who always is there for me when I struggle/-d and listens to it so I can/could process it and gain strength again and my father who supports my ambitions, tells me it's ok to know set backs and take my time while helping me to go forward step by step and many of the people I managed to befriend after a very lonely time when I was a huge outcast in my school with only one friend who my bullies tried to convince to leave me mainly because I was very weird compared to my classmates. I can't do anything but agree with you and what you wrote about the "knight in shining armor". When viewed "selfish" it's mainly about praises and the feeling of being needed which both aren't bad but also important for healthy self image as long as it's not a demand, an unhealthy expectation or a forced insert in someone's situation that don't actually help them and might even hinder their growth for your own interests as you described. When you help someone it's important to show care about the wants of the person that you help. Making sure they are safe in actual danger or harm has a priority but of it isn't in such a situation you have to listen to what they tell you instead of claiming you know best for them. Those are the important distinctions and a healthy mindset to life up to the actual knight in shining armor. Someone as noble as that knows when to be humble and just a human or friend when time is right (the majority of time).

We had this character, a king who was cursed for all eternity by a cosmic entity trapped in a human body for simping and harassing her publicly despite having a family, even after 5000 years and despite being cursed by her, he claims to still be loyal to her... we all got sick of him and very soon, but our own mr. nice guy started to rant against the goddess for being "a bitch who doesn't understand loyalty and should be taught lessons about love from a real man".

"Y'all are scoundrels! See you on Saturday, bring pizza!" Though I paraphrased a bit, this sentiment resonates with me HARD! I've said it and heard it more than once in very similar words!😂

I both am from and live in N.Ireland... the troubles was no joke, and the scars still linger. I remember the army patrolling the streets with rifles and not being able to get the train due to a bomb on the tracks, my uncle nearly lost his business and his life to a bomb too because he was a Protestant in a Catholic area, thankfully it didn't go off... Hearing someone who didn't have to live through that horrible time say it was "stupid" is just a walking red flag....

Slight criticism. The grossed out uh and eh noises where funny at first but at least for me got pretty annoying pretty quickly. Maybe use them a little more sparingly in future videos Still love your videos! Just something I noticed in this one

The response of op to alcohol is something I find stupid. He has a good point. Alcohol is poison. Refusing alcohol isn't a problem

I got the impression it was more the condescension that bugged OP than the refusal. If you don't drink, you can just say so without an implied insult to everyone who does.

First story was typical crazy. But YOUR story. Dude as a dm, that is one of the most powerful cards in your deck, even though your party is wrong, make them right. It makes them happy, it gives you a chance to improvise and have some unexpected fun, and more than anything the most memorable moments that your party will talk about for years to come often come about in this way. Well done critcrab, you truly are a top tier dm

How has it taken this long for Crit Crab to come across the incel subset of the "white knight"?! It's kind of adorable how he thinks he's the first to discover and define them.

I'm sorry to nitpick, but... did OP seriously say that they consider NOT LIKING ALCOHOL a personality flaw?! I mean, if Nice Guy(tm) had been verbally berating everyone else for drinking, that would have been one thing, but judging from what the actual post said, he just doesn't like having his mental faculties impaired, which is a reasonable excuse for not drinking. Hell, that's my reason for not drinking; I have a hard enough time thinking as it is. I mean, sure Nice Guy(tm)'s phrasing was a bit pretentious, but still, people are allowed to not like things. Other than that, though... Yikes. That's one "nice guy" who DESERVES to finish last.

Suffer not the "Nice Guy", the Incel, or the Simp. Then again, I can barely tell these people apart these days anyways, their toxicness comes from the same place.

I think calling conflict stupid to someone who has been involved in that conflict deserves to be met with a no strings attached kick to the groin.
