so this is a clear case of trauma and hallosination . as he said that sam was his only friend , so when he heard about sam's death he could take it and started halosinating , creating his own story in his mind putting sam in everything

Because that is indeed my house but I don't have a cat". I don't know why he added the mentally unstable part in the end

In the original story the other girl never had a cat and neither asked her friend to look after her house as their last conversation was about the house party at her house so then how did she get the pass to her garage? What was she doing there alone? Talking to herself? Why would she hallucinate about a cat? Why was there a witch when her friend was alive? Was the cat a ghost and a witch?

I think the boy was lonely from childhood so mental problems were developing from childhood. That's why he then started imaging sam. But when he went to his college he became more lonely and that triggered his mental issues and he imagined sam more and became best friend with him. But eventually he understood his problem and tried moving on in his life. At first it was good but then he again suffered from something and issues triggered him again and he was depressed and mentally disturbed totally at that point so he started hallucinating. And then he killed the cat but imagining that he is playing with him and that's why he got bad smell. But I don't know how he get the passcode of that garage.

What was that footsteps in that house? What was that foul smell? If that house was not of SAM, how did he knew the passcode of garage? Why was cat acting so creepy? What was that airport episode meant for? And last, what happens in the end??
